Michif Child & Family Services (MCFS)Agencyis a mandated child and family services agency with the responsibility to administer and manage culturally appropriate community-based child protection and support services for Metis and Inuit people in Manitoba.FAMILY SERVICE WORKERFULL-TIME POSITIONCompetition #: MCFS-FSW-2026.013Hours of Work: 7.25 hours per dayClassification and Salary: SP3 $31.83- $42.02/SP4 $35.11 - $49.89Location: Dauphin, Manitoba, Must be able to travel.Under the supervision of the Service Supervisor, the Family Services Worker will work as part of a team to provide support and guidance to our families, children and youth under the mandate of the Child and Family Services Act, providing services such as child protection and assessment, casework, legal preparation, working with caregivers and collaterals.Main areas of Key Responsibilities and ActivitiesIdentify and investigate complaints of neglect, abuse or where children are at risk and in need of protection and assess the level of risk to determine case planning strategies and apprehensions.Conduct investigations and assessments of children at riskInterview children, using a variety of age-appropriate methods, to formulate case goals and plansDevelop working relationships with clients, from a variety of cultural backgrounds, and develop case plan to address the issues that necessitated Agency involvement and work with families of children at risk in home setting in order to improve a family's level of functioningCoordinate delivery of services to meet identified needs through case management, referral to community resources,
advocacy and providing supportive or rehabilitative servicesProvide counselling services to children and families and teach strategies to families to minimize risk and improve level of functioningEvaluate the client's progress in the service recommendations as per the case plan and develop collaborative relationships with caregivers for the delivery of services for the child in carePrepare foster parents, relatives and other substitute caregivers to receive children in placement to minimize trauma and facilitate adjustmentCoordinator delivery of services to meet identified needs through case management, referral to community resources, advocacy and providing supportive or rehabilitative servicesEvaluate the client's progress, monitor family functioning and investigate any allegationsMaintain regular contact with child, parent(s), birth family, and caregiverWork to transition a child to his/her parent(s) care when risk factors have been reducedInitiate permanent placement planning when necessaryPrepare for and participate in legal and court actionsCompile and document information for pre-trial and collaborates with the lawyers and/or legal representative to implement legal action including serving Notices of HearingPrepare testimony for children and/or self and testify in court hearingsComplete all administrative and reporting requirementsComplete assessments, closing and transfer summaries, as per Provincial StandardsComplete documentation including written service contracts, referral forms, placement formsRecord and maintain daily contact note journals and update on case status, letters and memosEducation and ExperienceBSW or BA and two years related experience, or a combination of education and five years related experienceKnowledge related to areas of substances abuse, family violence, child maltreatment, and child developmentStrong oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated skills in areas of crisis intervention, abuse investigation and assessing high risk situationsExperience working with Metis and Inuit peopleAccess to a vehicle and possession of a valid Manitoba driver's license as travel to various Agency offices throughout the Province will be required.Prior to commencing employment the successful applicant will be asked to provide satisfactory results of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Check, proof of $2 million dollar insurance liability, and a Driver's Abstract upon hire at their own expense.
