Position Title: Guardian - Forestry, Recreation, LandsEmployer: 'Na̱mǥis First NationLocation: Alert Bay, BCEmployment type: Full time _ on-siteSalary: Level 13, Salary _ L13 - $50,651 - $59,095) per year, commensurate with experienceReports to: Director, Natural ResourcesPosting closes: Until filledPOSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Natural Resources (NR), the NR Stewardship Technician will be responsible for field activities related to 'Namgis natural resource management in lands, fisheries, forestry, water, and rights and title related activities.REPORTS TO: Director of Natural ResourcesSpecific ResponsibilitiesPositively representing 'Namgis to members and the outside world in all activities.Activity Recording and Data collection: most field activities will have a data collection component, some examples include: CMT surveys, marine surveys, brood stock, egg-takes. These activities must be tracked in supplied notebook.Activity Reporting: you will frequently be asked to create.Physical and biological assessmentsPhysical and biological samplingCommunity relations and educationSafe operation and maintenance of equipment including vessels,
all-terrain vehicles, trucks, trailers, etc.General maintenance: gear, vehicles, facilities. All tools, vehicles and facilities are to meet safety standards of 'Namgis policies.Undertake training as assigned.Support new/temporary staff.Other duties are as required by the Natural Resources Director, and/or the Administrator.Skills & Experience RequirementsAbility to work in challenging marine and wilderness environments in a safe and productive mannerStrong written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated competency with MS Office SoftwareKnowledge of 'Namgis cultureEducation/QualificationsGrade 8 or equivalentValid Class 5 BC Driver's LicenceSmall Vessel Operator Proficiency - SVOPMarine Emergency DutiesBasic First AidSwiftwater RescueUnusual Job FeaturesVarious duties that include strenuous manual labourIrregular work hours which may include overnight and weekendsExtensive outdoor workMay work in or near swift watersTasks often include travel by ferry and truck/boat to work site or as part of activities
