The Assistant Head Nurse - Clinical Development Nurse (CDN) is a member of the Edmonton Public Health (EPH) team working out of East Edmonton, Woodcroft and CapitalCare CHOICE South health centres. The CDN is a leadership role engaged in a wide range of activities to support the Antenatal (Home) Monitoring Program and the Community Perinatal Program which provide care to medically complex and/or marginalized populations of pregnant patients. The CDN is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs for staff orientation, compulsory education programs, and clinical development, as well as providing clinical care. This position supports staff at multiple sites within the Edmonton Area and is required to travel. This position is required to: support the program manager (i.e. provide clinical expertise and input to Manager regarding staff development); complete clinical practice evaluations of nursing colleagues; coordinate & lead staff orientation; provide continuing education; facilitate change and possess conflict resolution skills. The CDN collaborates and participates locally and provincially with a variety of partners.
Description: As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience,



will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing secure, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications: The CDN will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Labour & Delivery, current FHS training and CPR. Previous experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e., ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.) Previous experience with Connect Care required. Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs to deliver services; carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 7.75-hour shift, including sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Document in an electronic medical record continuously throughout the shift. Be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgment.
Preferred Qualifications: FHS Instructor is an asset. CNA Certification in Community Health Nursing. Master’s degree in related field.
