Our guards are the face of our company on every site, and we take pride in being known for professionalism, reliability and a calm, respectful presence.The RoleAs a Security Guard with First Defence, you will be assigned to client sites throughout HRM to protect people and property, deter and respond to incidents, and deliver a high standard of customer service. Depending on the site, your duties may include access control, patrols, monitoring, incident response and reporting. You will follow site-specific post orders and work closely with our Operations Scheduler and supervisors to ensure every shift runs smoothly. We offer a range of shifts, including days, evenings, overnights and weekends, and we work with you to build a schedule that fits.What You'll DoProvide a visible, qualified security presence at assigned client sitesConduct regular foot and/or mobile patrols of interior and exterior areas, checking for hazards, unsecured doors, suspicious activity and property damageControl access to buildings and restricted areas, verifying identification and signing in visitors and contractorsMonitor CCTV, alarm and access control systems where installedRespond promptly and appropriately to incidents, alarms, disturbances, medical emergencies and fire alarms, escalating to police, EHS or fire services as requiredDe-escalate conflicts calmly and professionally, using force only as a last resort and within the limits of the lawEnforce client property rules and issue warnings or trespass notices in accordance with post ordersWrite clear, accurate and timely incident reports, shift logs and daily activity reportsProvide directions, assistance and courteous customer service to tenants, employees, visitors and the publicFollow all site-specific post orders, emergency procedures and First Defence policiesUse Connecteam to clock in and out, review your schedule, receive updates and complete reportsMaintain a clean, complete uniform and present yourself professionally at all timesWhat We're Looking ForRequiredValid Nova Scotia Security Guard Licence, or eligibility to obtain one before your start dateAbility to pass a criminal record checkLegally entitled to work in CanadaMinimum 18 years of ageStrong verbal and written English communication skills, including the ability to write clear incident reportsReliable,
