Become a Utility Operator I with the District of Sechelt, responsible for maintaining essential public infrastructure. This full time role includes hands-on work with wastewater and stormwater systems across the community.
Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the Utility Operator I plays a vital role in operating and maintaining roads, parks, and specialized municipal assets. Candidates need to demonstrate manual labor skills with both hand and powered tools, as well as a commitment to public service and teamwork in a vibrant coastal community. Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and addressing emergency issues are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain and repair sewer and wastewater systems
• Operate heavy equipment for public works tasks
• Conduct road repairs including potholes and grading
• Respond to emergency calls related to wastewater
• Perform garbage collection and park maintenance
Requirements:
• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with clean abstract
• EOCP Level 1 Wastewater Collections certification or ability to acquire
• Minimum one year experience in public works utilities
• WHMIS and Confined Space Entry certifications
