Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC)
Location: In office, Brandon, Manitoba | Full-Time | $52,000?$56,000/year
Level 3 Position | Reports to: Finance Administrator | HR: Executive Director
The Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC) is looking for a Bookkeeper to join our team.
The Bookkeeper supports the Finance Administrator with financial administration, bookkeeping, payroll, and project reporting. This position works closely with staff across BNRC to ensure financial records are accurate, timely, and meet organizational, legislative, and funder requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Assist with budget preparation and monitoring.
Prepare monthly financial statements.
Prepare cheques and payments for authorization.
Maintain cash controls and implement financial policies and procedures.
Monitor corporate credit card transactions and verify charges.
Ensure financial transactions and data are accurately recorded.
Maintain accounting systems and organized financial files and records.
Assist with the annual audit.
Provide financial process guidance to supervisors and staff.
Payroll & Personnel Administration
Maintain employee benefit and personnel records.
Process bi-weekly payroll time entries.
Maintain employee leave and lieu-time records.
Reconcile payroll reports with ledger balances.
Assist with new employee documentation and related financial administration.
BNRC delivers a diverse range of community programs and government-funded projects. The Bookkeeper provides financial support to ensure budgets and reporting requirements are properly managed.
Responsibilities include:
Assist with financial setup and budgets for new projects.
Prepare financial reports and quarterly claims for funders, including Service Canada Community Entity projects.
Review, compile, and verify financial claims.
Process advance requests and related cheques.
Maintain slippage and Profit & Loss (P/L) reports.
Track GST on program expenses.
Record Service Canada advances, deposits, and withdrawals.
Work with program staff to support accurate financial reporting and budget administration.
Attend in-person, hybrid, and online meetings with funders and colleagues.
Work collaboratively with supervisors and staff across BNRC programs.
Advise colleagues on financial processes that support their day-to-day work.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Two-year college diploma in Business, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field and certification in bookkeeping or financial management ; and
Minimum 5 years of recent, related experience , ideally within a Canadian not-for-profit organization. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Clear criminal Record check is required.
Skills & Experience
Strong bookkeeping and accounting knowledge.
Experience with general ledger management,
reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.
Experience with payroll and employee records.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team-oriented team.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with financial and personnel information.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of Canadian not-for-profit accounting and government-funded program reporting is considered an asset.
