Copcan Civil is currently seeking experienced Vac Truck Operator / Equipment Operator to join our team in the East and West Kootenay region of British Columbia. This role involves operating hydrovac/vacuum trucks to support underground utility, civil, and construction projects across the area. Work locations may include Rossland, Trail, Castlegar, Cranbrook, and surrounding communities. Copcan Civil, part of Norland Limited, is an award-winning civil construction company with offices in Nanaimo, Victoria, Kelowna, and Rossland. In business since 1970, Copcan Civil has successfully completed projects across Vancouver Island and the BC Interior, including highways, bridge construction, underground utilities, demolition, marine infrastructure, private development, and municipal works.Duties & ResponsibilitiesSafely operate a vacuum truck (hydrovac) to perform daylighting, trenching, debris removal, and excavation supportConduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is safe and operationalOperate high-pressure water and vacuum systems safely and efficientlyExpose underground utilities while minimizing risk of damageFollow all site-specific safety requirements, company policies, and WorkSafeBC regulationsCommunicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and site personnelMaintain accurate daily logs, inspection reports,



and required documentationPerform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of the truck and equipmentWork collaboratively with crews to support project timelines and site needsTravel to various job sites throughout the Kootenays as requiredWhat We're Looking ForPrevious experience operating a vac truck or hydrovac equipment preferred with current and valid Class 3 Driver's Licence (Class 1 considered an asset) with a clean driving recordKnowledge of underground utilities and safe excavation practices is an assetAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsStrong safety awareness and attention to detailGood communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to work independently and as part of a teamReliable, punctual, and professional work ethicWillingness to travel throughout the Kootenays region for project workMechanical aptitude and experience performing equipment checks is an assetCompensationThis is a Unionized position with Copcan. This position will earn Union wages and will have access to extended Union healthcare and benefits, a Union-sponsored pension plan, and additional training through the Training Plan.
