Working within the Nunavut Bureau of Statistics and reporting to the Territorial Statistician, the Information Officer/Analyst (Economics) is accountable for producing a wide variety of statistical publications and reports; responding to requests for statistical information; researching information; developing, maintaining and interpreting economic data; and general administrative functions along with other related duties.
The key responsibilities of the Economics include but are not limited to:
Reviewing daily and monthly statistical releases from Statistics Canada, Canadian Socio-economic Information Management (CANSIM) and other external sources;
Preparing briefing notes, fact sheets, executive summaries, and scheduled publications covering key economic indicators such as employment, retail, consumer price index (CPI), and census data;
Preparing and distributing media transmissions, official statistical releases, and web updates;
Responding to requests for statistical information from government departments, media,
and the public by reviewing inquiries, extracting data, and coordinating follow-ups;
Researching information, analyzing government requirements, and executing statistical projects to develop and maintain economic data under the guidance of the Territorial Statistician;
Monitoring and analyzing statistical issues affecting Nunavut data within the national statistical framework, and supporting territorial positions for federal-provincial-territorial statistical committees;
Providing general administrative support, including handling general inquiries, greeting visitors, and preparing correspondence.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized
University degree in Statistics, Economics or related field, along with two (2) years’ experience in an office environment in a research capacity or position.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit,
Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
