Position title: Avalanche Forecasting Team MemberLocation: Red Mountain Resort, Rossland, British Columbia, CanadaEmployment Status: Full time - SeasonalJob Type: UnionReports to: Avalanche Forecasting Coordinator, Patrol Director and Associate Patrol DirectorSupervises: Avalanche Control WorkersDate of Posting: September 20, 2026.Posting Closes: October 9, 2026.JOB POSTING *Note* The position being offered requires working a schedule as determined by the operational needs of the team. In the event of a scheduling conflict, shifts will be assigned by the Patrol Director, with shift selection occurring in order of seniority.Position SummaryAs a member of the Avalanche Forecasting Team you will support all aspects of RED Mountain Resorts operational avalanche forecasting and mitigation program while also supporting Professional Patrol operations. Working alongside the Forecasting team you will collect weather and snowpack observations, conduct stability assessments, participate in operational forecasting and avalanche hazard mitigation and maintain documentation of all mentioned above. This position requires sound decision-making, excellent communication, and a commitment to mountain safety.The Avalanche forecasting team member position will be scheduled for 10-hour days, 4 days per week during the operating season and 8-hour days, 5 days per week during the pre and post operating season.Participate in Patrol Forecasting Team daily duties, as they are assignedConduct snowpack analysis in study plots and other selected areasSupervise avalanche control operation: develop daily control strategies, assign control teams and control routesEnsure Avalanche Safety Plan and Avalanche Control Procedures are current and relevant.Facilitate avalanche related training programs including regular refresher training.Ensure that all training certificates are up to date and validParticipate in and train for handling, transporting,



preparing and deployment of explosives for the purpose of avalanche controlCreation of a daily avalanche hazard forecast, Avalanche hazard analysis, info-ex report as well as other avalanche and weather related informationCollecting weather observations, reporting and documentation as required.Maintain all signage, fencing and closures as required for the Snow Safety Program and RED's signage requirementsDeliver pre-season and ongoing training in avalanche search and rescueDeliver pre-season and ongoing training in avalanche control techniques and procedures and routes.Provide mentorship and serve as a Professional reference for developing and emerging avalanche professionalsDocument all training of staff in a log.Perform the daily Magazine check, cleaning and record keepingKeep current with any industry changes to explosives storage, transport and regulationsTake a leadership role in providing a high standard of pre hospital care and transport for injured guests and employeesFollow all Red Mountain Resort SOPs.Be available to work early mornings and extended hours.Support and encourage the adoption of new technologies and innovative practices within the companyQualificationsCanadian Avalanche Association Level 2 for Operations or working towards the certificationCAA Active Member in Positive Standing or working toward their membershipNUEC3 with Advanced ProtocolsWSBC blasting ticket, current in Hand Charging and Safety Fuse AssembliesCAA Intro to WeatherCAA Avalanche Search and Rescue Advanced SkillsComputer skills knowledge and proficiencyCurrent TDG certificatePerformance Measures:Independent thinking as to what the position may requirePhysically fit with good hygieneProvide a courteous attitude towards guests and coworkers.Demonstrate willingness to help out and to go beyond the routine duties of the position.Excellent knowledge of local terrainOnly qualified applicants will be contacted for interviews.
