About the Role Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, the Environmental Services Assistant helps ensure patient care areas, staff workspaces, and public areas remain clean, safe, and welcoming for patients, families, visitors, and employees.
As a member of the KHSC team, you will actively support our commitment to patient- and family-centred care while contributing to a positive healthcare experience for everyone who enters our hospital.
What You'll Do In this role, you will:
Clean, sanitize, and disinfect patient care, staff, and public areas.
Maintain floors, stairwells, elevators, carpets, and hard surfaces using specialized cleaning methods and equipment.
Clean patient rooms, bathrooms, nursing stations, lounges, storage areas, and other inpatient spaces.
Handle and transport linens,
including distributing clean linens and collecting soiled linens.
Safely transfer and dispose of various waste streams, including biomedical, chemical, confidential, and sharps waste.
Restock patient and staff supplies and support inventory maintenance.
Participate in evaluating new products, equipment, and procedures.
Launder and inspect specialized healthcare items, including lift slings, transport accessories, curtains, and other hospital materials.
Assist with furniture and equipment moves and support meeting and event setup requirements.
Respond promptly and professionally to operational needs across the hospital.
What You'll Bring Required Qualifications Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Proven ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
Successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
Physical Requirements This is a physically active role that requires the ability to:
Remain standing and walking for extended periods.
Push and pull up to 50 lbs.
Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
Regularly bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and twist.
Demonstrate strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity when operating equipment and performing cleaning tasks.
