Firma Contracting is looking for an accomplished Civil Project Manager to lead underground infrastructure projects throughout Edmonton and the surrounding area.
This position will take ownership of projects across their full lifecycle, from estimating and tender preparation through construction, financial management and final closeout. The successful candidate will bring significant experience in water and sewer construction and will be comfortable balancing the commercial, operational and technical requirements of complex civil projects.
The role requires someone who can build reliable estimates, understand project drawings and quantities, establish realistic construction plans, monitor financial performance and work closely with field leadership to keep projects moving. Strong communication with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers will also be an important part of the position.

Compensation: Starting at $120,000 annually, with final compensation determined by relevant experience, qualifications and formal education.
Role Overview:
As Civil Project Manager, you will be responsible for the overall delivery and commercial performance of assigned underground infrastructure projects. You will work closely with estimating, operations and field teams to establish project requirements, allocate resources, manage contractual obligations and identify potential issues before they affect schedule or cost.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lead water, sanitary sewer, storm and related underground infrastructure projects from initial planning through final turnover
Develop project execution plans, construction schedules and key milestones in coordination with operations and field leadership
Prepare detailed estimates for prospective civil construction work
Develop competitive bid packages and tender submissions based on project drawings, specifications and contractual requirements
Complete and verify quantity take-offs and material take-offs for underground construction scopes
Review tender documents to understand scope, risks, exclusions,
specifications and project requirements before submission
Use Bid2Win for estimating and related pre-construction activities
Establish project budgets and monitor financial performance throughout construction
Track actual and committed costs against project forecasts and approved budgets
Regularly review cost-to-complete information and update project forecasts as conditions change
Analyze production, labour, equipment and material costs to identify variances and potential financial risks
Identify opportunities to improve productivity, control costs and strengthen project performance
Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors and other resources required to meet project schedules
Work directly with Superintendents, Foremen and other field leadership to address operational requirements and upcoming work
Maintain communication with clients, consultants, municipalities, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders
Review drawings, specifications, contracts, addenda and other technical documentation throughout the project
Evaluate scope changes and coordinate pricing, documentation and follow-up for change work
Oversee RFIs, submittals, progress documentation, change orders and other required project correspondence
Monitor construction progress against schedule, budget and contractual requirements
Assist in resolving field conflicts, constructability concerns and unforeseen site conditions
Ensure project documentation remains organized, accurate and current
Coordinate project turnover requirements, deficiencies, final documentation and closeout activities
Support project teams in maintaining Firma’s expectations for safety, quality and environmental compliance
Build productive working relationships with both field and office teams while demonstrating professionalism, accountability and integrity
Experience & Technical Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of Project Management experience within civil construction
Demonstrated experience managing water and sewer infrastructure projects is required
Strong background in underground utility construction, including an understanding of typical installation methods, sequencing and field operations
Significant experience with construction estimating, tender preparation and competitive bid submissions
Ability to complete and review detailed quantity and material take-offs
Experience developing and managing schedules for complex or large-scale construction projects
Strong understanding of project budgets, forecasting, cost control and financial reporting
Ability to analyze project costs and recognize financial or operational variances
Experience managing projects from pre-construction through execution and closeout
Working proficiency with Bid2Win is required
Ability to interpret civil drawings, specifications, contracts and other construction documents
Strong understanding of change management and project documentation processes
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and project priorities simultaneously
Strong leadership and decision-making skills
Effective written and verbal communication with clients, field personnel and external stakeholders
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Valid driver’s licence and clean driver’s abstract
Education & Additional Experience:
The following qualifications would be considered assets:
Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management or a related discipline
Previous experience delivering municipal infrastructure projects
Familiarity with additional construction estimating, scheduling or project management platforms
Experience working directly with municipalities, engineering consultants or public-sector clients
Experience overseeing multiple active civil projects or complex project portfolios
