Start Date: Immediate/ Flexible (applications will be reviewed as received)Rate of Pay: $35-40 per hour depending on experienceHours of Work: estimated 20-40 hours per month (hours can be tailored to suit the successful applicant)Period: Year RoundLocation: Ideally, the successful candidate will be a resident of Northern Vancouver Island or able to easily commute for occasional in-person events and meetings.About NIMMSAThe North Island Marine Mammal Stewardship Association (NIMMSA) conducts conservation and business activities aimed at benefiting marine mammals, the economy and the marine environment off northern Vancouver Island.RequirementsThe successful Executive Director applicant must be proficient and professional in verbal and written conduct, have a good understanding of corporate, non-profit, and government structures, be self-motivated and able to work on various aspects of the organization on short notice whenever issues need attention. Knowledge of the tourism industry and/or a background in marine mammal policy/ conservation is preferred. A passion for regenerative tourism and best sustainable practices is most important. The Executive Director must be able to work independently to lead the strategic initiatives of the organization within a currently limited budget to build capacity and ensure long-term sustainability and growth.DutiesThe Executive Director of the North Island Marine Mammal Stewardship Association (NIMMSA)
will be responsible for the following:Overall management of NIMMSAGeneral Advancement of the three pillars of the NIMMSA Strategic PlanSTEWARDSHIPUpdating and enforcement of the member Code of ConductManage all aspects of the Conservation FundAdvocate for the NIMMSA vision and mission with government and the broader communityCOMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTFoster a sense of community amongst membersProvide educational opportunities for membersMaintain a guide/driver directoryFacilitate social opportunities for members to connectOrganize the annual Operators MeetingBuild upon First Nations Engagement and Reconciliation effortsManage social media channels (IG, FB and LinkedIn)Publish a quarterly newsletterMaintain the websiteAct as point person for government relations (the board will also support here)Organize and chair monthly board meetings (virtual), Spring Operators meeting, and the AGMSupport coordination of community meeting(s) pre/ post seasonMedia relationsCAPACITY BUILDING AND FINANCIAL RESILIENCYEnsure financial records are organized and up to datecollection of membership & conservation fees (maintain and modify fees as needed)year end financial reportsbudget creation and cash flow managementensure we are in positive standing with the Societies Act (complete annual filings)Identify revenue opportunitiesEarned incomeFunding opportunitiesUtilize social capital by enlisting board/NIMMSA members for tasksSome duties can be contracted to other staff (currently 2 PT supporting general administration and communications)JOB PERKSflexible hours, work from home except for a couple of annual in-person events
