Red Pheasant Cree Nation recognizes the value of an Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative worker. This role works under the direction and supervision of the Health Director and Community Health Nurse, developing, implementing and coordinating programming for community members living on reserve. The position is responsible for promoting healthy life choices using a community development and population health framework.ResponsibilitiesDevelop a yearly work plan setting out goals, activities and a projected budgetCoordinate meetings among identified staff to assist with education and home visitationsParticipate in follow up and transition activities involving on reserve membershipCarry out health promotion programs and community education events,
and plan individual and group workshops for on reserve membershipAdvocate and act as a liaisonOrganize workshops for on reserve members and provide training as identifiedQualificationsRelevant or equivalent educational classesKnowledge of diabetes causes, prevention, challenges and opportunities specific to the communities servedKnowledge of health services program management principles, practices, techniques and toolsValid Class 5 drivers licenseCurrent Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable SectorAbility to speak Cree would be an assetMust be able to work overtime or weekends if necessaryAssetsKnowledge of Indigenous worldviews, Truth and Reconciliation, and residential school historyKnowledge of trauma informed training and trauma informed careKnowledge of family centered strength based practices and traditional parentingExperience with home visitation and working on reserve or with First Nation organizationsHoursThis position is based on full time hours, with a typical schedule of Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.
