Working together to provide outstanding integrated health care to our communities delivering best patient outcomes with exemplary standards and compassion, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is a multi-site organization that includes Huntsville District Memorial Hospital Site and South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Site.ROLEAnswer incoming telephone calls on main switchboard connecting callers to extension/area directing any complex inquiries to the appropriate individual or department after ascertaining the nature of the callGreet patients/visitors to provide basic information and direction to appropriate contacts or servicesRespond to inquiries regarding patient status utilizing hospital computer system and/or patient listsResponding to and announcing Code AlertsDirecting calls in emergency situationsAssist individuals wishing to pick-up or drop-off packages etc. during off hoursEnsure patient registration functions (inpatient/outpatient) are carried out in an efficient manner by interviewing patients/family to collect and process registration informationProcess admission and discharge/transferReceive and process appointment/test requisitions in accordance with appropriate procedure and protocols efficientlyRespond to telephone calls from patients to book appointmentsSchedule appointments via telephone, and interview patient to collect/validate demographics, financial data, and other required information,



advising patient of any information required and what items to bring when arriving for appointmentProvide preparation instructions for appointmentCall the patient's physician office directly or notify the patient directly regarding scheduling changes and/or cancellations of proceduresRequired Education & Certification(s)Certificate in recognized Office Administration course or equivalent experienceSuccessful completion of Medical Terminology courseRequired Skills & Experience(s)Significant recent clerical experience including excellent organization skillsExcellent keyboarding and computer skills having worked with spreadsheets and word programs, including speed and accuracy - 60 wpmExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsExcellent customer service skillsAbility to organize and control all functions within the departmentKnowledge of office equipment (computers, fax, photocopier etc.)Ability to interpret instructions and fulfil as requestedExperience with Healthcare oriented software programsAbility to exercise good judgement, take initiative and work independentlyPrevious Hospital experienceMust have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to effectively communicate via the telephone and in-person to serve the needs of patients/staff/visitors in a manner that is customer service oriented, efficient and productive,
