Applicants are encouraged to make their needs for accommodation known in advance during the application process.Job DescriptionAssist teacher(s) of the deaf by working with students (individually and in small groups); Communicate in the preferred modality or language of the student for e.G., ASL, PSE, Sign Support or Oral CommunicationAssist in personal care and health needs of students with deaf/hard of hearing needs (e.G., toileting, lifting and transferring, feeding, approved administration of medication – with training provided)Assist the special education teacher(s)



in developing self-advocacy skills for students to direct their own personal care and to foster independenceAssist the special education teachers(s) in addressing and meeting the physical safety needs of student(s), e.G. BMS techniques, behaviour shaping, prompting strategies, proximity control, etc.Assist the special education teacher(s) in the academic instruction, as well as the delivery of alternative curriculum for students with deaf/hard of hearing needsAssist the teacher(s) in the integration of these exceptional students into the regular classroom programs within the school and community, as appropriateProvide student and class support to facilitate integration (e.G. prompting) under the direction of the classroom teacher and the special education teacher in the regular and special education classroomsQualificationsTwo year Community College Diploma in related field (e.G., ECE, DSW)3 months related experience working with students with language delays, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceFluency in sign languageKnowledge of Deaf CultureRequisition Workflow: Unit C, Schools - On Call ReplacementRate of Pay:Supply hourly rates: $24.423.4% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these ratesTemporary hourly rates (after 30 days) $32.563.8% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these ratesSchedule:Up to 6 and 50 minutes per day between 8:00 am and 4:30 pmTo support our students and to continue on our roster, replacement staff are required to work a minimum of 60 days during the school year.
