The Charge Biomedical Technologist - Mechanical performs Biomed mechanical functions including supervision and guidance for other staff in Biomed Mechanical (machine shop). Duties include repair and enhancement of surgical instruments, fabrication of any apparatus required to solve a particular challenge or problem, and consult on any aspect related to medical or surgical processes (including appropriateness of materials related to sterility). Other duties as assigned by the manager. The Charge Biomedical Technologist performs user training and assistance when required and may take part in design, modification, construction, and evaluation of various devices. As Charge Biomedical Technologist, the position requires triage decision-making, problem-solving, and assistance to other technologists when required. The Charge Biomedical Technologist participates in interviews for positions and other department leadership activities as assigned.
Conducts weekly meetings with staff to determine and prioritize current activities.
Qualifications
1. Tool and Die Maker (college certificate).
2. Familiar with all types of Conventional Machine tools and grinders and their associated attachments, stainless welding, silver welding.
3. Familiar with full spectrum of materials, (as well as stainless steels, high performance plastics).
4. Work within high tolerances, and small, fine work pieces.
5. Organize and prioritize workload.
6. Work with no / minimal supervision.
7. Observe valuable health and shop safety practices
8. Experience repairing and enhancing surgical instruments.
9. Leadership ability and good communication skills.
10. Solve mechanical-based problems; design, develop, and fabricate.
11. 5 years of experience in the field.
