Reporting to the Coordinator, Revenue Services, the Accounting Clerk I is responsible for front-counter customer service and payment processing at City Hall, and supporting accounting clerk duties for cash collections, utility billing, property taxes, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and banking support. Providing front-counter and phone support by responding to general customer inquiries, including questions related to utilities, property taxes, and other Finance services. Processing payments received in-person, by phone, through City Hall night deposit box, or by mail; prepare bank deposits; Following up on overdue utility accounts and processing water turn on/off and meter installation requests.
Completion of tax certificates as required. Performing reconciliations. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 1-year related experience dealing with customers, cash handling, multi-tasking, and account reconciling.
Completion of basic entry level accounting courses is required. The ideal candidate will be team-orientated and possess exceptional interpersonal and customer relations skills. The ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing)
effectively in a positive and courteous manner is essential.
Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite are required, especially with Excel and Word. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday; varying daytime shifts.
