Description The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department and ensuring the accurate preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial information across multiple entities. This role provides leadership to the accounting team while driving continuous improvement in financial processes, controls, systems, and reporting.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical accounting knowledge, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to support organizational objectives
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team by providing guidance, performance feedback, training, and support.
- Collaborate with Finance leadership and business partners to support departmental and organizational objectives.
- Oversee the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including financial reporting, analysis,
and reconciliations.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting reports.
- Research, analyze, and resolve complex accounting matters while providing recommendations to leadership.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, system enhancements, and operational efficiencies.
- Partner with Information Technology and business stakeholders to support financial systems, reporting tools, and technology initiatives.
- Support annual external audits by coordinating schedules, deliverables, and audit requirements.
- Provide financial information and support to operational and departmental leaders to assist with business decision-making.
- Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 7-10 years of progressive financial systems experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA designation is preferred.
- Previous leadership or management experience. Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Experience working with financial systems, ERP platforms, and reporting tools.
- Experience leading financial systems implementations or process improvement initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, Canadian accounting standards, financial reporting requirements, and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
