Role: Architectural Sheet Metal Shop Foreman
Wage: $38.00–$42.00+ per hour, based on skills and experience

Position Summary The Architectural Sheet Metal Shop Foreman is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Laing Roofing Ltd.’s Architectural Sheet Metal fabrication shop. This hands-on leadership role oversees shop production, team development, quality control, inventory and material management, and coordination with project teams to ensure materials are fabricated accurately and delivered when needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers to understand current and upcoming project requirements, schedules, priorities, and required-on-site dates.
- Plan and prioritize shop production, materials, equipment, and labour to ensure fabrication is completed accurately and delivered when and where it is needed.
- Proactively identify and communicate changes, shortages, conflicts, or potential delays before they impact shop production or field operations.
- Lead and coordinate the shop team, assigning work based on production priorities, schedules,
and individual capabilities while maintaining clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping.
- Coach, train, and mentor team members to strengthen their technical skills, workmanship, problem-solving abilities, and overall development.
- Read and interpret drawings, measurements, specifications, and fabrication requirements, and safely operate power brakes, power shears, CNC tables, and other fabrication equipment.
- Oversee and participate in the fabrication of Architectural Sheet Metal components, including coping, flashings, panels, trims, transitions, tapers, square-to-rounds, custom components, welding, brazing, and copper work, troubleshooting fabrication challenges as required.
- Inspect completed materials to ensure they meet project specifications and Laing Roofing’s quality standards and are properly finished, free from known deficiencies, and ready for field installation before leaving the shop.
- Manage and maintain accurate control of Laing Roofing’s high-value metal and material inventory, ensuring materials are properly received, stored, protected, and accounted for.
- Monitor inventory and upcoming project requirements to coordinate timely ordering while avoiding shortages and unnecessary overstocking.
- Maximize material utilization and minimize waste by effectively using existing inventory, off-cuts, surplus, and underutilized materials wherever practical.
- Ensure all materials are accurately tracked, allocated,
and coded to the appropriate project/job, maintaining accountability for the financial value of Company inventory.
- Ensure shop machinery, tools, and equipment are safely operated, inspected, and maintained, coordinating repairs as required and ensuring team members are appropriately trained.
- Maintain a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with Company policies and safe work procedures, addressing hazards and unsafe practices, and participating in safety meetings, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop, including work areas, material storage, tools, equipment, and inventory.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of Architectural Sheet Metal experience; Journeyperson certification or an equivalent combination of training and demonstrated experience preferred.
- Previous Foreman, Lead Hand, supervisory, or demonstrated leadership experience preferred.
- Robust knowledge of Architectural Sheet Metal fabrication, layout, and installation, with the ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, measurements, and fabrication details.
- Demonstrated experience with complex/custom fabrication, welding, brazing, copper work, and operating power brakes, power shears, CNC equipment, and other fabrication machinery.
- Experience with inventory/material management and proficiency with Excel and other systems used for tracking, documentation, communication, and time entry.
- Forklift/telehandler experience and a valid driver’s licence are assets.
Pay: $38.00-$45.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 50.0 per week
