Vertex is seeking a senior engineering professional to lead and build our Building Condition Assessment (BCA) and Property Condition Assessment (PCA) service line. This role goes beyond traditional project management. You will be responsible for establishing a scalable, high-quality, and defensible BCA/PCA practice, including developing field teams, standardizing inspection methodologies, and implementing QA/QC systems.
As the technical authority and Engineer of Record, you will ensure that all assessments align with ASTM standards while delivering clear, decision-focused insights for lenders, investors, and property owners.
Service Line
Development & Technical Leadership Define what constitutes a high-quality, defensible assessment, with a focus on clarity and capital planning insight Serve as the primary technical authority for all BCA/PCA and reserve fund work Field Team Development & Training Build, train, and mentor a team of technologists, inspectors, and field staff, leveraging Vertex’s broader technical team as needed Develop standardized inspection protocols, checklists,
and guidance tools Implement a scalable model where field staff collect data and senior technical review ensures quality and consistency Ensure consistency in data collection, photo documentation, and deficiency identification Quality Assurance & Delivery Model Establish and oversee QA/QC processes to ensure all reports are accurate, consistent, and defensible Review field data and reports to ensure appropriate assumptions, limitations, and cost opinions are applied Manage risk by ensuring clear communication of scope, limitations, and uncertainty Project Oversight Oversee project execution across a portfolio of commercial, industrial, and multi-residential properties Support complex or high-risk assessments directly Identify opportunities to integrate services with ESA, roofing, and building science offerings This is not a traditional project management role. Vertex is looking for someone who can combine technical expertise with sound judgment to deliver assessments that support real-world investment and asset management decisions. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Building Science Engineering ~ Multi-provincial licensing is an asset ~10+ years of experience in building sciences, with significant BCA/PCA and capital planning experience ~ Solid understanding of building systems and lifecycle performance ~ Proven experience training, mentoring, and overseeing field-based assessment teams ~ Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce clear, defensible, client-ready reports This position is Remote/Hybrid Opportunity to build and lead a national service line from the ground up Direct influence on technical standards, delivery model, and team structure Vertex does not use artificial intelligence to screen, assess or select applicants for this position.
