Objective The Board of Directors of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) is looking for a high energy, responsible person to lead our organization.
Position Summary The TPBA is a not-for-profit corporation based out of the Christie Pits neighbourhood of downtown Toronto. We offer year-round, inclusive baseball programming and have over 1500
participants playing on house league, select, and rep level teams. Our mission is to instill a love for the game, promote respect and fair play, and empower young athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the field.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will provide hands-on leadership for the organization. They will ensure that players, families, coaches, umpires, staff, volunteers, and partners have a fun,
safe, well-run, inclusive, and positive baseball experience.
Reporting to the TPBA Board of Directors (BoD), the CEO is responsible for day-to-day operations, interest-holder communication, financial administration, community engagement,
and long-term strategic planning. The CEO is a full-time salaried position.
This is a practical, visible leadership role. The successful candidate should be comfortable moving between administration, parent and coach communication, bookkeeping, staff coordination, community relationship-building, and time on the baseball diamond.
The start date is expected to be early 2027.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary is competitive and based on experience, with a hiring range of $70,000 - $100,000
annually. Benefits are included.
Key Responsibilities
Operations and Program Delivery
● Follow directions set by the BoD.
● Oversee the day-to-day operation of TPBA’s programming, including house league,
academy, camp, and related activities.
● With the relevant TP staff, oversee scheduling for diamonds, games, practices, events,
camps, clinics, staff, and volunteers.
● Ensure that the TPBA’s programming standards support player safety, positive baseball development, fair play, inclusion, and a strong community atmosphere.
● During the baseball season (Apr-Sept), spend approximately 25% of working time on the diamond or at baseball sites, supporting program delivery, observing operations, building relationships, and addressing issues as they arise.
● Communicating weather-related information.
● Responsible for volunteer coach recruitment and development.
Leadership, Strategy, and Community Engagement
● Work with the BoD to develop and implement short- and long-term strategic priorities for the TPBA.
● Works closely with the Select-Rep Coordinator and Competitive Committee of the BoD to ensure TPBA’s Select and Rep programs operate as an integrated part of the organization. The Select-Rep Coordinator oversees day-to-day operations, while the
CEO provides strategic support, ensures alignment across all streams, and helps foster the long-term growth of TPBA’s competitive programs.
● Build and maintain relationships with local families, Toronto District School Board partners, municipal partners at the City of Toronto, community groups, sponsors,
baseball interest-holders, and other youth sport organizations.
● Represent the organization positively in the community and identify opportunities to increase participation, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the player and family experience.
● Lead or support planning for special events, community initiatives, clinics, tournaments,
recognition activities, and other organization-building opportunities.
● Develop and grow non-registration revenue,
including corporate and local business sponsorship, grants, donations, and fundraising events
● Identify, write, and manage grant applications and funding opportunities relevant to youth sport, inclusion and community recreation.
● Attend and participate in meetings with sports-focused organizations, such as the Jays
Care Foundation, ensuring follow-up on commitments, program alignment, and effective partnership communication.
Communication and Interest-holder Support
● Serve as a primary point of contact for TPBA-affiliated staff, community partners, and other interest-holders.
● Respond to parent and interest-holder concerns professionally and promptly, including house league coach concerns and other program-related issues.
● Prepare clear, timely, and audience-appropriate communications regarding schedules,
weather, policies, staffing, events, payments, and program expectations.
● Support a transparent and respectful communication culture that builds trust across the
TPBA community.
Financial Administration and Bookkeeping
● Accountable for bookkeeping, including payroll administration, tracking staff hours,
entering payroll information into the system, and adding or removing staff as required.
● Reviews revenue and expenses, including the high volume of payments received from registrations, programs, and other sources.
● Reviews, monitors, and updates budgets; track actual results against budget expectations.
● Ensure bills, reimbursements, staffing payments, and other financial processes are handled accurately, responsibly, and on time.
● Work with the relevant individuals to maintain organized financial records and support appropriate internal financial controls for the organization.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
● Demonstrated leadership, management, or operational experience in a youth-serving,
sport, recreation, nonprofit, community, or small-business environment of at least 3
years.
● Demonstrated experience recruiting, training, supervising, or supporting staff or volunteers, ideally at scale (dozens to hundreds).
● Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities during a busy seasonal schedule.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with parents, coaches, staff, volunteers, youth participants, partners, and BoD members.
● Ability to handle conflict, complaints, and sensitive concerns with professionalism, sound judgment, and confidentiality.
● Ability to work evenings and weekends during the baseball season and to be present at diamonds or organization events as required.
● Proficiency using a mobile phone, computer, word processing software, email, and holds valid Ontario driver’s license.
● Strong commitment to youth development, safety, inclusion, fair play, and community sport.
Asset Criteria
● Experience scheduling officials, umpires, coaches, staff, volunteers, facilities, or sport programming.
● Experience creating or implementing policies related to weather, safety, risk management, child protection, or field operations.
● Experience with bookkeeping software,
payroll systems, registration platforms,
spreadsheets, or other administrative systems used by community organizations.
● Experience working with a BoD, volunteer committees, municipal partners, sponsors,
funders, or community-based partners.
● Knowledge of local baseball programming, House League structures, youth sport operations, or community recreation systems.
● Playing or coaching background in baseball or softball.
● Basic financial literacy and demonstrated ability to manage administrative financial tasks, including payroll inputs, budget tracking, revenue tracking, expense tracking, and record keeping.
● Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships, strengthen community relationships, and represent an organization publicly.
● Strategic planning experience, including setting goals, measuring progress, and translating plans into practical operational steps.
● Evidence of post-secondary education or training in an area related to the role.
Conditions of Employment
● This role includes a mix of remote administration, community meetings, and on-site work at TPBA-affiliated baseball diamonds and sites.
● Seasonal peaks should be expected, especially during registration, scheduling, opening weeks, playoffs, tournaments, severe weather events, and end-of-season activities.
● Vacation time during the house league season needs to be pre-approved by the BOD.
● The CEO must be available for time-sensitive communications, including severe weather decisions, staffing issues, umpire scheduling needs, and parent or coach concerns.
● A valid vulnerable service sector check and police background check screening result,
as assessed by the TPBA BoD. It is comprised of an annual declaration and a vulnerable sector check on initial appointment, followed by criminal record and judicial matters checks every 3 years thereafter.
● The CEO is expected to use a phone, computer, and have access to a valid Ontario driver’s license to carry out the responsibilities of the role.

reviewing payroll entries, attending partner meetings, checking in at diamonds, and helping the
Board think about the organization’s future. They bring sound judgment, a service mindset,
strong follow-through, and a genuine commitment to creating a positive baseball experience for young people and families.
