Position Overview The Government of Nova Scotia – NS Housing Corporation is seeking a Clerk 1 / Receptionist (ADM02) to provide clerical and reception support at its 9 Church Street location in Truro, Nova Scotia.

This is a temporary backfill position required until the permanent vacancy is filled. The successful candidate will perform a variety of standardized clerical and reception duties under direct supervision, following established methods and procedures with a strong emphasis on accuracy and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

- Greet and assist visitors and members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.

- Operate and manage the office switchboard and direct incoming calls appropriately.

- Receive, respond to, and route routine inquiries.

- Prepare, format, organize, and file correspondence and other office documentation.

- Maintain accurate and organized paper and electronic files.

- Perform general clerical and administrative tasks in accordance with established procedures.

- Order and maintain supplies for various office equipment and administrative needs.

- Receive, sort, distribute, and deliver inter-office mail.

- Assist with routine office coordination and administrative activities.

- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail when completing assigned clerical work.

- Follow established policies, procedures, and instructions while working under direct supervision.

- Provide professional service to internal staff, visitors, and members of the public.

Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications / Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

- Grade XI education plus related experience, OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.





- Related experience performing clerical and/or receptionist duties.

- Ability to perform standardized clerical tasks according to established methods and procedures.

- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ability to greet and interact professionally with the public.

- Ability to perform duties involving switchboard/telephone operations.

- Experience with preparing and filing correspondence and office documentation.

- Ability to handle office supplies and routine administrative requirements.

- Ability to manage and distribute inter-office mail.

- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision and follow established procedures.

Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be a reliable and professional administrative support individual with previous clerical, receptionist, front-desk, or office administration experience. The candidate should be comfortable interacting with the public, answering/directing telephone calls, maintaining files and correspondence, and handling routine office responsibilities accurately.

Strong communication, organization, customer service, attention to detail, and administrative skills will be important for success in this position.

Work Location & Schedule

Location: 9 Church Street, Truro, NS

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Schedule: 5 days/week

Hours: 7 hours/day / 35 hours/week

Contract: October 5, 2026 – October 30, 2026, with the requirement described as a backfill until the vacancy is filled.
