The Oncology Clinical Trials Solid Tumor Program is a busy outpatient program based at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, General Campus. We are seeking a Clinical Research Specialist to support our patient-facing clinical research and nursing activities. Our program specializes in conducting complex oncology clinical trials across all phases of drug development, from Phase I through Phase IV studies. Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, the Clinical Research Specialist provides high-quality clinical nursing care to patients enrolled in research studies while supporting the successful conduct of innovative oncology clinical trials in a collaborative and patient-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver protocol-specific clinical care to research participants.
- Administer study-related treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other investigational therapies, as required.
- Perform clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and peripheral intravenous (PIV) insertions.
- Collaborate closely with investigators and multidisciplinary study teams.
- Assist with participant education to support study compliance and adherence.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in accordance with protocol, regulatory, and institutional requirements.
The position requires on-site work at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, General Campus, Monday through Friday during regular daytime hours, with occasional extensions into the early evening, as determined in consultation with the incumbent and the Program Manager.
Basic Requirements (Education/Experience)
- Currently Registered Nurse certification with active registration in Ontario.
- Previous nursing experience caring for oncology patients, including the administration of chemotherapy and biologic therapies.
- Demonstrated experience administering medications, including oral, injectable, and intravenous therapies.
- Completion of the de Souza Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Program or Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification is required. Candidates must be willing to obtain certification or complete recertification within one month of onboarding.
- Experience performing phlebotomy, peripheral intravenous (PIV) insertions, and electrocardiograms (ECGs).
- Strong organizational, communication,
and time management skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical setting.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingualism in English and French.
This is a full time contract.
Salary: Min: $90,117/annum – Max: $120,157/annum
