The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, HCPC registered Clinical Scientist or Advanced Healthcare Scientist to join the Somatic Programme within Laboratory Genetics, part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The service provides comprehensive cancer genomics testing for patients across the West of Scotland and, through the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine, supports precision oncology services across Scotland. Based within the state-of-the-art Laboratory Medicine Building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, you will work at the forefront of molecular diagnostics, delivering genomic testing that directly informs cancer diagnosis, prognosis and targeted treatment decisions for patients with both solid tumours and haematological malignancies.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a nationally recognised genomics service and play a key role in the delivery of precision medicine, helping ensure cancer patients across Scotland benefit from the latest advances in genomic diagnostics and targeted therapies.

Key Responsibilities
- Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of over 110 scientific, technical and support staff, your responsibilities will include:
- Analysis, interpretation and reporting of complex somatic genetic and genomic data
- Authorisation of diagnostic reports that inform personalised cancer treatment pathways
- Providing specialist scientific advice to oncologists, haematologists, pathologists and other healthcare professionals
- Participation in Duty Scientist activities,
ensuring appropriate test selection and prioritisation of urgent cancer referrals
- Supervision, training and support of junior scientific staff
- Leading and contributing to service development, validation of new technologies and implementation of cutting-edge genomic testing strategies
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- A First or Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) in a biological science
- HCPC registration in an appropriate discipline
- A relevant postgraduate qualification in Genetics, Molecular Pathology or equivalent experience
- Significant experience within a diagnostic genetics, molecular pathology or cancer genomics laboratory
- Experience of complex molecular data analysis, interpretation and reporting
- Excellent communication, organisational and team-working skills
