Position Summary The Community Engagement Planner provides leadership in developing accessible, meaningful, and person-centred opportunities for Individuals Accessing Services (IAS) to participate in community life through development and maintenance of primary schedules including events, group while remaining flexible for IAS and worker needs.

Responsibilities

- Lead person-centred community engagement planning
- Explore ways to reduce barriers to community participation
- Develop community resources and partnerships
- Connect community engagement to individualized service planning
- Support workers to facilitate meaningful community participation
- Support quality, safety, and continuity of services for assigned Individuals Accessing Service (IAS)
- Manage workers assigned to the position's caseload

Qualifications/Experience

We are not looking for potential - we are looking for capability.

- Two-year diploma in Human Services, Disability Studies, Community Rehabilitation, Community Development, Recreation, Social Work, Education, or a related field; a related degree is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in disability services, community development, recreation, community inclusion, program coordination, partnership development, or a related human services field.
- Demonstrated experience connecting individuals with community resources, activities, services, employment, volunteer opportunities, or other meaningful community opportunities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility and barriers affecting community participation for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Experience developing community partnerships and maintaining professional stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, mentoring, or team-development experience; formal supervisory experience is an asset.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of Alberta disability and community service systems is an asset.
- Must maintain required Vantage mandatory training.
- Must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 and electronic documentation or data-management systems, or able to learn these systems effectively.
- Eligible to work in Canada

Working Conditions

- Full-time position of 37.5 hours per week.
- Hybrid work may be available following completion of the probationary period and based on organizational and service requirements.
- Flexibility in schedule and working hours is required to support community activities, meetings, events,



and individual needs that may occur outside regular office hours.
- Participation in the organizational on-call rotation is required.
- Regular work occurs in community settings throughout Calgary and surrounding areas.
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes and maintain required automobile insurance with a minimum of $2 million liability coverage.
- Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence and provide an acceptable driver's abstract.

What Success Looks Like In this role, you will:

- Create meaningful, person-centred community opportunities that reflect each IAS’s interests, strengths, choices, goals, and desired quality of life.
- Identify and reduce barriers to community participation, finding practical and creative solutions related to accessibility, transportation, communication, scheduling, and other individual needs.
- Build strong community partnerships and resource connections that expand opportunities for recreation, employment, volunteering, education, relationships, and social inclusion.
- Support IASs to develop greater independence, confidence, natural relationships, and a stronger sense of belonging within their communities.
- Equip workers and contractors with the knowledge, resources, and practical guidance needed to support meaningful community participation while respecting individual choice, dignity, and informed risk.

What This Role Is NOT

- Not an entry-level role
- Not a desk-based role for regular work in community settings and direct engagement with IASs, workers, and community partners is required.
- Not simply an activity or event-planning role for community opportunities must be individualized and connected to each IAS’s interests, goals, choices, and needs.
- Not a role where you rely only on existing programs for you will be expected to explore new opportunities, build partnerships, and think creatively when traditional options do not fit.
- Not suitable for someone who sees accessibility or logistical barriers as the end of the conversation for you will be expected to explore practical ways to increase meaningful participation.
- Not a predictable Monday-to-Friday role with fixed hours for flexibility is required for community activities, events, meetings, individual needs, and on-call responsibilities.
- Not a role for someone who waits for direction for you will need to identify opportunities, barriers, service gaps, and concerns and take appropriate action within your scope.
