Construction and Asbestos Worker

Employer: Visual Construction Inc.

Job Locations: Various locations in Calgary and surrounding areas. The employer provides transportation from the office to worksites and pays for travel expenses when the job is outside the city.

Wage: $28/hour (salary increases based on company policy)

Employment terms and conditions: Permanent, Full-Time, 40 hours/week (Day, Morning, Weekend)

Responsibilities

- Help measure, cut, assemble, and prepare wood and other materials, using hand and power tools safely as directed.
- Help carpenters with framing, walls, roofs, and installing doors, windows, trim, and siding.
- Help with renovation and demolition.
- Mix, pour, and spread concrete and asphalt. Level earth to fine grade specifications.
- Move materials, tools, and equipment to work areas.
- Help build and maintain negative-pressure containment enclosures (lumber framing, poly sheeting, airlocks).
- Erect, inspect, and dismantle decontamination chambers, waste chutes, and barricades.
- Stage abatement supplies and PPE at the clean/dirty boundaries.
- Remove lead-based paint by scraping, stripping, chemical treatment, or wet-sanding, using strict dust controls.
- Bag, seal, double-wrap, and label asbestos and lead waste in approved containers to meet regulations.
- Clean work areas, remove debris, and decontaminate tools, equipment, corridors, and surfaces by washdown, wet-wiping, and HEPA vacuuming.



Prepare containments for visual inspection and air clearance testing.
- Set up, operate, and maintain HEPA negative air machines and HEPA vacuums, including filter changes.
- Use, clean, and inspect required PPE, including P100 full-face and half-face respirators and disposable suits.

1 year of related experience

Area of specialization: Residential, Industrial commercial and institutional, Renovation, Rehabilitation

Work Site Workplace: Outdoors, Noisy, Dusty, At heights, Dangerous

Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding, attention to detail, repetitive tasks, manual dexterity, handling heavy loads (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs), and standing for extended periods, Fast-paced environment, Tight deadlines

Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills, Flexibility, Reliability, Team player, Dependability, Accurate, Hardworking

Equipment and machinery: Concrete saws, Grinding machines, Air gun, Jackhammers, Drills, Chippers, Air compressors, Hoses, Nail gun, Power generator, Roofing guns, Hammer drill

Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots, gloves, hard hat, vest, basic tools (Hammer, tool belt, drill, tape measure, speed square, chalk line, carpenter pencil, cat’s paw, cutter)
