Are you a Finance leader who sees beyond the numbers and understands how Finance can drive business performance?
Do you thrive on solving complex problems, challenging assumptions, and turning financial insight into decisions that move the business forward?
Do you enjoy partnering with operational teams, asking the right questions, and translating financial analysis into practical actions and measurable results?
The Director of Finance is the day-to-day leader and end-to-end owner of UnitiWall’s Accounting and FP&A; functions. The role ensures accurate ASPE-compliant reporting, disciplined forecasting, strong controls, and decision-ready insight in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, project-based manufacturing environment.
Reporting to the CFO and leading the Senior Accountant and Senior Financial Analyst, this hands-on department leader takes personal accountability for business issues, proposes practical solutions, and drives them through execution. The successful candidate takes a genuine interest in how the business operates and connects Finance with Project Management, Manufacturing, and Operations to surface risks early, challenge assumptions, and improve performance. This is an operational finance leadership role, not an administrative one.
How the Role Operates:
- Personally leads: forecast challenge, executive and departmental reviews, complex accounting judgments, project margin and recovery analysis, cash-flow decisions, business cases, process redesign, and communication of required actions.
- Oversees through the Senior Accountant: transactional accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, AP, AR, payroll and inventory accounting, supporting schedules, and financial-statement working papers.
- Oversees through the Senior Financial Analyst: forecast models, budget and forecast consolidation, project and departmental analysis, KPIs, dashboards, variance analysis, and recurring management reporting.
- Retains accountability: reviews and approves team output and steps into detailed work when an issue is complex, urgent, or not supported by a mature process.
Expected Outcomes:
Financial Reporting, Accounting & Controls
- Ensure timely, accurate, ASPE-compliant financial statements supported by clean, audit-ready records.
- Maintain disciplined close, reconciliation, documentation, accounting-policy, and issue-resolution standards.
- Maintain effective internal controls, approval authorities, segregation of duties, and governance practices.
- Lead external audit support and resolve findings promptly.
- Provide concise reporting that explains performance, key drivers, risks, and required actions.
Planning, Forecasting & Performance Management
- Lead the annual budget and rolling forecast with the CFO and department leaders.
- Ensure forecasts reflect current project, manufacturing, commercial, staffing, and cash-flow information.
- Test assumptions, challenge unsupported inputs, and present risks, opportunities, sensitivities, and management actions with each forecast.
- Lead monthly performance reviews using clear dashboards, KPIs, variance analysis, and corrective-action tracking.
- Maintain scenario analysis to support timely decisions as schedules, costs, and market conditions change.
Project & Commercial Finance
- Partner with Project Management to ensure actuals and forecasts reflect committed costs, labour, schedule changes, change orders, and known exposures.
- Oversee project accounting, job costing, revenue recognition, cost allocation, and credible cost-to-complete and margin forecasts.
- dentify margin changes early and partner with project leaders on prevention, mitigation, and recovery actions through resolution.
- Analyze project,
product, customer, and departmental profitability to improve pricing, productivity, and resource allocation.
- Develop business cases and executive recommendations for capital expenditures, investments, growth initiatives, and other strategic decisions.
Cash Flow, Working Capital & Inventory
- Partner with the CFO and operating leaders to improve cash flow, liquidity, and working-capital efficiency.
- Monitor receivables, payables, inventory, project billing, collections, and other cash-conversion drivers.
- Ensure effective inventory controls over receiving, issuing, perpetual records, cycle and physical counts, valuation, obsolescence, segregation of duties, and general-ledger reconciliation.
- Work with Manufacturing, Procurement, and Project Management to resolve inventory variances, improve material traceability, and reflect inventory and commitments accurately in forecasts.
Team Leadership
- Set clear priorities, standards, accountabilities, and development plans for the Senior Accountant and Senior Financial Analyst.
- Coach both direct reports to strengthen technical capability, business judgment, ownership, and confidence.
- Build an integrated, high-performance finance team with effective coverage, review, escalation, and follow-through.
Systems, AI & Continuous Improvement
- Improve the use of Planful and other finance systems to strengthen data quality, reporting, controls, and scalability.
