Yorktown Family Services is a community-based non-profit social services agency dedicated to providing effective, accessible, quality mental health treatment, prevention, and outreach services to children, youth, women, and families in West Toronto. We are uniquely organized to deliver services through two independent but integrated organizations: Infant, Child, and Youth Mental Health & West Toronto Youth Hub — a children’s mental health center, and Violence Against Women Services — a shelter for women and their children who are fleeing an abusive relationship.

Primary Function:

The Early Childhood Specialist will provide coordination, outreach, and facilitation for programs such as Supporting Young Families, Parenting in the Early Years, Parenting Wisely, and Ready Set School. The candidate will assist with providing developmental screenings and providing support for pregnant, parenting teens, young adults, and children aged 0-6 years of age.

Responsibilities:

- Develop and facilitate age-appropriate programs, groups, workshops, and activities that support the social, emotional, and developmental needs of children, youth, and caregivers
- Implement program activities and interventions in accordance with program objectives, established practices, and the developmental needs of participants
- Conduct outreach, promotion, registration, and referral activities to increase program awareness and connect families with appropriate resources
- Facilitate caregiver education sessions and workshops that promote positive parenting, child development, and family well-being such as community visits, community fairs, displays, presentations, and workshops
- Coordinate program logistics, including locations, room preparation, supplies, snacks/meals, activities, participant materials, scheduling, and post-program cleanup
- Ensure participant safety and respond appropriately to emergencies or issues, following organizational policies and procedures
- Collaborate with program staff, co-leaders, volunteers, and community partners to support effective program planning, delivery, and participant engagement
- Research, design, and deliver weekly age-appropriate activities for each group session/drop-in that reflects the goals and objectives of the program curriculum, including circle time, literacy based and arts/crafts-based activities.




- Provide child minding and program support for VAW services, Early Years Walk-in, ongoing therapy sessions, and all other agency programs, as required
- Communicate regularly with caregivers and participants, providing appropriate feedback, addressing concerns, and supporting positive participation in programs
- Evaluate program activities and outcomes through participants feedback, session debriefs, documentation, and regular communication with the Program Manager
- Document program activities and participant information accurately, including attendance, consent forms, client records, evaluations, and required reports
- Maintain a protected, welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive program environment, following organizational policies and procedures

- Other duties as requiredQualifications:

- Bachelor of Social Work, Early Childhood Education, or an equivalent relevant post-secondary credential
- Registration with a relevant professional regulatory body
- Minimum 2 years of experience facilitating programs, groups, or workshops for children,
- birth to age 12, and their caregivers/families
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook for reports, correspondence, documentation, scheduling, and calendars; familiar with Webex and electronic client-record systems
- Produce clear, objective, professional, and trauma-informed documentation, including case notes, reports, forms, referrals and incident documentation
- Strong computer literacy, accurate data entry skills, and ability to learn and use new electronic systems
- Independently maintain records, schedules, program materials, participant information, and other documentation in accordance with agency policies and privacy requirements
- Training in recognized parent education approaches
- Experience coordinating volunteers and community partnerships
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexibility to work evenings
- Vulnerable Sector Screening Required
