Early Childhood Educator – Out of School Care / Kinder Care

Location: St. John Henry Newman School – McKenzie Lake, Calgary

At Early Minds Out of School Care, we believe childhood should be filled with opportunities to learn, explore, build friendships, and, most importantly, have fun.

Our goal is to provide a safe, caring, inclusive, and engaging environment where children feel supported and valued. Through thoughtfully planned activities and experiences, we encourage children to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively while building confidence, independence, and positive relationships.

We are looking for a passionate, dependable, and motivated Early Childhood Educator who genuinely enjoys working with children from Kindergarten through Grade 6 to join our Early Minds team.

Hours of Work

Applicants must be available to work within the following program hours:

- Out of School Care: 6:45 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
- Kinder Care Program: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
- Additional hours may be required on Professional Development (PD) Days, school breaks, and other program days.

Position Overview The successful candidate will play an important role in creating a positive and engaging environment for the children in our care. This position requires someone who is organized, creative, energetic, and comfortable taking initiative. You will be responsible for developing daily, weekly, and monthly programming, actively supervising and engaging with children, supporting classroom routines, and providing developmentally appropriate activities based on the ages, interests, and needs of the children.

Building robust, respectful relationships with children, families, and fellow staff members is an essential part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and implement short- and long-term activities that reflect program goals,



developmentally appropriate practices, and the Early Minds philosophy.
- Create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment where children feel comfortable expressing themselves and making choices.
- Support the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of each child.
- Actively participate in activities and engage with children throughout the program day.
- Coordinate and implement Out of School Care and Kinder Care activities and programming.
- Encourage and support team members in contributing ideas to program planning.
- Prepare and maintain monthly program planning charts.
- Complete required observations and assessments of children’s development.
- Communicate with parents and guardians in a professional, respectful, and positive manner.
- Complete and maintain incident reports and other required program documentation.
- Maintain accurate records while respecting confidentiality and privacy requirements.
- Follow Early Minds policies, procedures, and positive guidance practices.
- Establish consistent routines and provide positive behavioural guidance and support.
- Set up and maintain classroom spaces that reflect program goals and encourage meaningful play and learning.
- Assist with the daily cleaning, organization, and maintenance of program spaces.
- Understand and follow all emergency and safety procedures.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for children and staff.
- Provide direction and support to assistants, aides, students, and volunteers when required.




- Follow all applicable Alberta child care licensing requirements, Early Minds policies, and health and safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Alberta Early Childhood Educator certification – Level 2 or higher.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s Licence.
- Reliable transportation.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification within the required timeframe after hire.
- Current Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Ability to successfully complete a Child Welfare Intervention Check.
- Required background checks must meet current licensing requirements.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Previous experience supporting children with behavioural or additional needs is required.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and implement engaging programming.
- Dependable, professional, patient, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
