Electrical Project Manager
Location: Calgary Alberta Position Type: Full-Time Industry: Electrical Construction
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Project Manager to lead commercial and industrial electrical construction projects from award through successful completion.
The Electrical Project Manager is responsible for the overall financial, operational, and technical performance of assigned projects. You will work closely with field leadership, clients, general contractors, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to a high standard of quality.
This is a hands-on project management role for someone who understands electrical construction, can effectively lead both field and office activities, and takes ownership of project results—representing Braun Electrical locally while leveraging the broader strength and backing of the Smith and Long team.
What You'll Do
Project & Financial Management
· Manage electrical construction projects from initial handover and planning through installation, commissioning, and closeout.
· Establish, manage, and forecast project budgets, including labour, material, equipment, and subcontract costs.
· Monitor project costs and productivity to identify risks and opportunities early.
· Prepare and manage monthly progress billing, change order billing, holdbacks, and other project financial requirements.
· Review project performance against budget and implement corrective actions when required.
· Identify scope changes and prepare pricing for changes, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
· Protect project scope and proactively manage potential scope creep.
Planning & Scheduling
· Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, milestones, procurement plans, and manpower requirements.
· Coordinate project startup, including tools, materials, safety documentation, permits, schedules, and site requirements.
· Work closely with field leadership to establish short-term and long-term work plans.
· Monitor manpower, productivity, and progress against project schedules.
· Conduct regular project and site reviews to identify schedule, cost, safety, and quality risks.
Field Leadership
· Provide leadership and support to Forepersons, Supervisors, and field teams.
· Ensure field teams have the information, materials, tools, equipment, and resources required to execute their work efficiently.
· Monitor installation quality, productivity, workmanship, and compliance with project requirements.
· Support the development and mentoring of field employees.
· Work with field leadership to resolve performance, attendance, training, and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies.
· Promote accountability while maintaining a positive and professional project environment.
Contract & Change Management
· Review estimates and project handover information to fully understand project scope, assumptions, exclusions, and contractual requirements.
· Review IFC drawings, specifications, electrical and non-electrical shop drawings, contracts,
and other project documentation for constructability and completeness.
· Manage RFIs, submittals, site instructions, change notices, contemplated changes, and change orders.
· Prepare accurate cost estimates and supporting documentation for changes.
· Negotiate project changes and commercial matters with clients and general contractors.
· Maintain organized and accurate project records.
Procurement & Subcontractor Management
· Manage project procurement, including material releases, purchase orders, equipment, tools, and subcontracted work.
· Identify long-lead equipment and materials early and proactively manage procurement risk.
· Coordinate shop drawing submissions, approvals, manufacturing, releases, and delivery schedules.
· Monitor supplier purchase orders, pricing, shipment details, and delivery requirements.
· Coordinate and manage subcontractors to ensure their work aligns with project safety, schedule, quality, and contractual requirements.
Client & Stakeholder Management
· Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, general contractors, consultants, engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
· Represent the company professionally in all project-related interactions.
· Attend site meetings, progress meetings, internal project reviews, and field coordination meetings.
· Provide clear reporting on project schedule, financial performance, manpower, procurement, risks, and outstanding issues.
· Proactively resolve project challenges before they affect schedule, cost, or client relationships.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
· Champion a strong safety culture across all assigned projects.
· Ensure project teams and subcontractors comply with company safety requirements and applicable legislation.
· Ensure installations comply with project drawings, specifications, electrical codes, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
· Coordinate permits, inspections, and other regulatory requirements.
· Ensure deficiencies are identified and resolved promptly.
Project Closeout
· Coordinate project completion, commissioning, deficiencies, and turnover.
· Support the preparation and submission of closeout documentation, including warranties, O&M; manuals, as-built drawings, inspection records, and other contractual deliverables.
· Ensure final billing and change orders are completed and outstanding holdbacks are released.
· Support the timely resolution of outstanding accounts receivable related to assigned projects.
What You Bring The ideal candidate combines strong electrical construction knowledge with proven project management and leadership capabilities.
Qualifications
· Experience managing commercial, institutional, industrial, or multi-residential electrical construction projects.
· Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, systems, drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
· Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, labour productivity, scheduling, procurement, and change orders.
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation.
· Experience coordinating electrical field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, general contractors, and consultants.
· Working knowledge of construction contracts, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change management, progress billing, and project closeout.
· Journeyperson Electrician certification, Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, engineering background, or equivalent electrical construction experience is considered an asset.
· Experience with project management, scheduling, estimating, and construction management software is an asset.

Salary: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 annually
Hours
· Full-time position, immediate vacancy.
· Approximately 40 to 50 hours per week, depending on project requirements.
· Regular travel to assigned project sites may be required.
