For more information about TransAlta, visit our website at, TransAlta is seeking a talented and experienced Intermediate to Senior Electrical Engineer to join its engineering team. This position provides technical expertise to support the safe and efficient operation of TransAlta's generating stations.

Responsibilities include technical research, evaluation of equipment options, cost estimating, troubleshooting, and ensuring regulatory compliance. As projects progress through their lifecycle, duties will include developing technical specifications, reviewing and evaluating bid proposals, performing design reviews, and providing technical oversight to ensure quality and reliability. This is a full-time, safety sensitive position based out of Kingston, Ontario with frequent travel to remote site locations for field work up to 30% of the time.

Relocation support will be considered for the right candidate. Undertake assigned electrical, High voltage, medium voltage, electrical protection and coordination, compliance and occasionally instrumentation, and controls engineering or multi-discipline projects for the generating fleet. Supervise and perform engineering and project management work as requested across the business.

Provide technical leadership for engineering activities, including timely investigation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment issues and delivering sound recommendations.



Research and analyze technical solutions and equipment options in terms of cost and performance for engineering projects. Interpret and apply industry standards and TransAlta best practices to ensure code compliance while balancing cost, quality, and reliability objectives.

Support major maintenance activities such as turnarounds and unplanned outages, including development of work scopes and inspection plans. Lead project development activities including technology assessment, conceptual design, bid evaluation, and contract reviews. Assess, recruit, and manage consultants, contractors, and suppliers to meet project resource requirements.

Promote and reinforce TransAlta's Health, Safety, Security, and Environment policies and procedures.

Electrical

Engineering degree from a recognized institution; 4-6 years of relevant experience in thermal/gas-fired power generation or a comparable industry (additional experience considered an asset). ~ Hands-on experience with Switchgear/MCCs, motors, generators, transformers, power system analysis, protection and coordination. Turbine control systems, DCS, PLCs, fire alarm systems, and SCADA a plus. ~ Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based software.



~ Project management experience is an asset. ~ Comfortable with field work and extended durations during outages. ~ Valid Class 5 driver’s license. This position is based in Kingston, Ontario and will require frequent travel to remote site locations for field work up to 30% of the time.

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$94,720 - CAD$136,160 at the time of this posting. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training. The top end of the range is reserved for individuals with exceptional, directly relevant expertise and a demonstrated history of strong performance within TransAlta.
