The Opportunity
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, Fleet Services, and working under the direction of the Fleet's Electronics Specialist, the Electronics Technician is part of the team primarily responsible for the installation and maintenance of the City’s automotive electronics systems (vehicle telematics systems, camera systems, two-way radios, etc.). Occasionally other non-automotive electronics systems are installed and maintained as well.
Accountabilities
• Install, test, maintain, remove, and service vehicle telematics, camera, communication and control systems, as well as sensors, accessory lighting, and other related IoT systems and electronic components.
- Support wiring, mounting and securing of equipment.
- Removing and reinstalling automotive interior trim, and exterior access panels.
- Installing, troubleshooting and maintaining network infrastructure that could include security camera systems, weather stations, and other network electronics.
- Assisting fleet personnel with electronic-related vehicle defects.
- Handling tools, cables, and other related equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintain records of completed service.
- Other related duties The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work.

Qualifications
Education
- Graduation from high school and completion of a two-year electronics technician, electromechanical technician program or other related field.
Relevant Experience
- 1-3 years’ experience in a role of similar responsibility and complexity dealing with the installation and maintenance of similar electronic devices.
- Experience working with 12 and 24-volt automotive accessories, sensors, relays, etc.
- Experience with large automotive fleets, heavy duty trucks and heavy construction equipment is considered an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude in hydraulic and pneumatic systems is considered an asset.

- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to effectively manage changing priorities while maintaining a high level of detail and accuracy.
Other
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
- Current Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Certificate of Conduct to be submitted with application.
A combination of education and experience acceptable to the City may be considered.
Working Conditions
• This position will be required to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, primarily in a fleet maintenance garage. There may be occasional exposure to minor disagreeable weather conditions.
- High paced environment with many interruptions and shifting priorities.
- Will be required to operate light-duty vehicles to perform verification runs and relocate equipment between the depot yard and the garage.
- The duties of this position may occasionally require work on evenings or weekends during exceptional circumstances.
- Hands-on work in a safety-focused, team environment.
- Reports directly to the Operations Supervisor – Fleet, working under the direction of Fleet’s Electronics Specialist
Physical Requirements
• Moderate physical effort can be expected frequently while installing, servicing, or removing electronic hardware from vehicles, including kneeling, lying down, bending awkwardly, reaching into tight locations, and twisting as required.
- Working with light-duty tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, crimps, utility knives, etc. will be required.
- Must have finger dexterity/grasping ability to operate issued equipment/devices, and a computer.
- Occasional lifting and handling of equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is required.
This position is classified as safety sensitive. The City of St. John’s has a comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Policy to ensure fitness for work and the completion of a satisfactory alcohol and drug test is a mandatory pre-employment requirement.

Monday to Friday
8:00AM to 4:00PM
