Canadian Safety Group Inc. (CSG) is hiring an Apprentice Instructor. This is the first step in your safety career, not a just a quick stop. You will be trained and mentored by our experienced instructors to teach, learn, and work the CSG way, and you will keep growing here long after your first solo session. This role involves regular travel to client sites.
Reporting to the Managing Director, instructors are responsible for facilitating a wide range of courses in person to clients across Ontario. As the face of CSG you will ensure that courses are delivered with the highest quality and consistency every time. You thrive on engaging learners and have an innate ability to use your past experiences to reinforce the learning outcomes in courses.
The ability to travel is required for this position and based on client needs the flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, early mornings, and overnight travel is a must. A valid driver’s license is required as well as access to a reliable vehicle that can fit equipment (suv/van/truck).
What will you do in this role?
- Learn to facilitate in-person training courses to audiences across different industries using adult learning principles and best practices
- Rely on your own industry knowledge of various subjects and the practical application to accurately answer participant questions with sensitivity, professionalism and inclusivity at all times
- Perform practical evaluations for courses where requires (i.e. mobile equipment)
- Ensure that administrative requirements are completed accurately and in a timely manner, including documentation, expense sheets, etc.
- Act as a subject matter expert as required to assist in the development or modification of course content
- Provide feedback to team members to ensure accurate and exceptional content delivery to clients
- Work closely with team members to best understand the needs of our clients
What you MUST bring to the team
- A valid Ontario driver's licence and access to your own vehicle
- Willingness to travel regularly
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg)
- Openness to flexible hours and the occasional weekend
- A passion for Health and Safety
- Enjoyment of being in front of people
- A desire to continuously learn by asking questions, ongoing mentoring, and training
- Strong proficiency with computers and technology, including Microsoft Office programs, DropBox, etc.
- Must be able to pass a vulnerable sector clearance police check
- Strong time management skills
What are nice for you to have, but not a must
- Health and Safety certifications are desirable (i.e. JHSC, Train the Trainer programs, First Aid, WAH, etc.)
- Solid understanding and knowledge of legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and various Regulations (i.e. Construction, Industrial, Mining, etc.)
- Experience in construction, heavy industrial, mining, and/or utilizing mobile equipment desirable
- Comfortable working at very high heights, around or in confined spaces, and around fake blood/props for wounds
- Basic understanding and comfort with the use of AI tools – or openness to learning and use
- Second language an asset

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to complete a paid 6 month Instructor Development Training Program with us at the advertised rate and hours regardless of experience. Pay: $19.50-$35.00 per hour
