Support shutdown, decontamination, commissioning, and startup activities as a post‐qualified operator which includes support at the energy complex which includes a bitumen upgrader, oil refinery, chemicals plant, and a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility.
The Field Process Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of refinery process units at the Refinery. This role supports refinery production objectives by conducting equipment inspections, monitoring process conditions, troubleshooting operational issues, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate refinery process equipment, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, and piping systems.
- Perform routine field inspections and record operating conditions such as pressures, temperatures, flow rates, and levels.
- Respond to process alarms and abnormal operating conditions, taking corrective action as required.
- Assist with equipment start-ups, shutdowns, isolations, and commissioning activities.
- Conduct safety checks, equipment rounds, and housekeeping activities to maintain a safe work environment.
- Support maintenance activities through lockout/tagout procedures, permit compliance, and equipment preparation.
- Identify and report safety, environmental, and operational concerns.
- Collaborate with Control Room Operators, maintenance personnel, and other refinery teams to ensure reliable operations.
- Adhere to all company policies, operating procedures, and refinery safety standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Process Operations, Power Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Previous experience in refining, petrochemical, oil and gas, or industrial processing operations is an asset.
- Strong understanding of process safety and operational procedures.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safe work practices.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, reliable, and productive refinery operations while supporting production and environmental performance objectives.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 4th Class ABSA‐certified Power Engineer.
- Experience working in a process operations environment.
- Personal fire‐retardant clothing and CSA‐approved 6? safety boots.
- All other required PPE provided post‐orientation by client project (Hardhats, Gloves, Glasses. Etc.)
- Current fall protection and confined Space with Energy Safety Canada or Alberta Construction Training Institute before you report to site for orientation.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
- Ability to safely wear a respirator or SCBA.
- Commitment to client's drug‐free, harassment‐free, and safety‐focused policies.
- Willingness to work overtime, including during Turnarounds.
- Ability to work rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays).
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must live within commuting distance or be willing to relocate at own expense.
- Work schedule varies by role and Turn Around phase.
