Financial Controller This is a hybrid job role, 3 days in our Calgary office and 2 daysat the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge. Reporting directly to the General Manager and working closely with Corporate Finance and Executive Leadership, the Controller serves as the strategic financial leader for the property. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel financial operations, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, business analysis, cash management, internal controls, and risk management.
This individual provides financial insight and leadership to support business decisions, drive revenue growth, and establish best practices that enhance operational performance. The ideal candidate is an experienced hospitality finance qualified with exceptional leadership, analytical, and communication skills. Serve as the senior financial leader for the property and a key member of the Executive Leadership Team.
Develop and implement financial strategies that support the resort's short-term and long-term business objectives. Identify business opportunities, operational efficiencies, and revenue enhancement initiatives through detailed financial analysis. Establish and continuously improve financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
Financial
Planning & Analysis Lead the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning initiatives. Oversee monthly forecasting and financial performance reviews. Analyze revenue, expenses, labor costs, departmental productivity, and key performance indicators.
Accounting & Financial Reporting Oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, income audit,
payroll, general ledger, balance sheet reconciliation, liquidity management, cash flow management, group billing oversight and collections. Review and approve financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
Internal
Controls & Compliance Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risk. Oversee all audit processes including annual external audits and internal reviews. Ensure compliance with tax regulations, licensing requirements, and government reporting obligations.
Monitor financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies. Ensure adherence to company policies, financial procedures, and regulatory requirements. Partner with department leaders to establish financial goals and performance targets which include restaurants, catering, sales, housekeeping, front office, transportation, guest activities, pool, club lounge, engineering.
Analyze labor efficiency, pricing strategies, market trends, and business performance. Lead, mentor, develop, and inspire the Accounting team. Recruit, train, and retain high-performing finance professionals.
Conduct performance reviews and create development plans for team members. Foster collaboration between Finance and all operating departments. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
Professional Accounting
Designation is preferred but not required for the role. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline. Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience. Proven experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and strategic analysis.
Experience managing audits, internal controls, compliance, and regulatory reporting. Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial reporting systems. Demonstrated ability to influence operational leaders and drive business performance through financial insights.
The successful Director of Finance will: Serve as a trusted advisor to the General Manager and Executive Leadership Team. Develop a high-performing finance team. Help drive the property's long-term financial success and strategic growth.
