Job Synopsis The Finance Director is responsible for ensuring sound financial management of the income and disbursements, investments and assets of MCC Alberta.

Director is the chief finance professional and will provide analysis, proactive advice, and professional guidance as necessary to the Executive Director and other managers.

Director is accountable to the Executive Director and works closely with other staff members, and the Board Treasurer.

Candidates should have

- current accounting designation (CA, CGA, CPA);
- minimum five years of experience in full-cycle accounting;
- fluent in cloud-based accounting systems;
- excellent skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel;
- experience in preparing month-end and year-end statements;
- familiarity with Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations;
- familiarity with Charity Tax law according to CRA, including regulations for receipted donations, gifts in kind, calculation of administration costs;
- familiarity with running payroll processes;
- willingness to engage hands-on in all aspects of organizational finance;
- experience in working independently, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
- successful police record check clearance.




- This is a hands-on Finance Director role that combines strategic financial leadership with direct involvement in day-to-day financial operations. The ideal candidate would be at least a controller or CFO of a small business, with familiarity in all aspects of day-to-day accounting and payroll.

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management
- maintain and, as necessary develop and revise, an accounting system that efficiently records MCCA’s income and expenses;
- prepare monthly statements of operations and department financial reports for MCC management;
- prepare and present quarterly financial reports for the Finance & Audit Committee and Board of Directors;
- maintain and develop reports for on-going monitoring of financial performance of MCCA and specific projects;
- prepare the year-end working papers and financial statements for the external auditors;
- manage payroll processing for all employees;
- prepare and present annual operating and capital budgets in cooperation with MCC leadership;
- work closely with thrift management to effectively manage shop finances, including appropriate retail-level monthly financial reporting;
- work closely with donor relations to ensure donations are received, processed and receipted in accordance with donor wishes, CRA regulations and MCC policies
- manage relationships with banking, insurance and credit card service providers;
- maintain and monitor internal controls; assess effectiveness of internal control framework.

- ensure MCCA’s compliance with the Shared Policy Framework (Finance);
- collaborate with MCC Canada and the other provincial MCCs in planning and populating shared budgets and statements;
- analyze needs, recommend and develop policies for sound financial management and reporting;
- ensure compliance with accounting standards and CRA charity law regulations.

Salary Details

Base salary: $109,885

Additional Information

MCCA is a relatively small organization; therefore, it is important that the candidate for this role understands that the work is very hands-on. The finance director is responsible not only for overseeing the financial functioning of the organization but also for ensuring that day-to-day accounting and payroll tasks are done, even if it means their own fingers on the keyboard to accomplish those tasks.
