ABOUT US
Evidence Based Finance is a financial planning firm built from the ground up for one client: the incorporated Canadian physician.
We charge a transparent flat fee, do exceptional work, and our clients - who are among the most financially complex professionals in the country - trust us for it.
Our client pipeline comes entirely through inbound channels. We are embedded in one of Canada's largest physician communities, and demand for our services consistently exceeds our capacity. That's why we're hiring.
We are a small, focused team that takes the work seriously. Every planner here is a specialist. If you've spent years doing great financial planning work inside a system that didn't let you do it right - this is the role you've been looking for.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS
We think financial planners should spend their time financial planning.
Our clients are all professionals, and more than 60% are females. Many are navigating the intersection of demanding careers, family responsibilities, incorporated businesses and increasingly complex financial decisions.
We’ve built our practice around making those decisions easier to understand and act on. The ability to listen well, communicate without jargon, and understand what matters to the person behind the financial plan is central to how we work.
What you'll do day-to-day:
- Lead client Data Integrity and Goals meetings to gather and confirm all financial information
- Build detailed financial projections in Planworth
- Draft written recommendations covering corporate and personal cash flow, debt management and structure, education planning, investments, retirement, tax, estate and insurance/risk management
- Deliver plans to clients in video meetings with clarity and confidence
- Identify insurance gaps and refer to our licensed insurance specialist
- Manage your own client files through our structured workflow and systems
- Collaborate with senior leadership on complex cases and contribute to process improvement as the firm scales
WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT
We want to be direct about what you will never be asked to do here:
✗ Cold call or prospect for clients
✗ Meet sales targets or AUM growth quotas
✗ Gather assets or recommend investment products
✗ Manage relationships driven by revenue generation
Our clients come to us. Your job is to advise them extraordinarily well.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
- CFP® certification, or QAFP® certification with a short timeline until full CFP® certification
- Minimum 2-3 years of financial planning experience, with a demonstrated ability to build and present comprehensive financial plans independently
- Strong working knowledge of incorporated professional structures: professional corporations, salary vs. dividend compensation strategy, passive income rules, registered account optimization, and corporate estate basics
- Excellent client-facing communication skills - you can explain complex concepts in plain language and earn trust quickly with a highly educated and discerning audience
- Self-directed and organized - you manage your own workflow in a remote environment without needing close supervision
- Genuine interest in physician financial planning as a specialty, not just a client type
Strong assets
- Experience advising incorporated professionals (physicians, dentists, lawyers, or similar)
- Familiarity with Planworth, Zoho CRM, SideDrawer, or similar planning and client management tools
- Life and Accident & Sickness insurance licensing
- Comfort with video-based client meetings as a primary delivery format
WHAT WE OFFER
- Base salary of $75,000-$105,000 commensurate with experience, credentials, licensing, and ability
- Performance incentives tied to plan delivery quality and client outcomes - not sales
- Full remote flexibility - work from anywhere in Canada
- Flex-time - we trust our planners to complete the work necessary to fulfill their objectives. Outside of client and internal meetings, when you work is up to you
- A structured, well-documented planning process with clear standards and senior support - you will never be left to figure things out alone
- A genuine inbound pipeline - you will never wonder where your next client is coming from
- A small, focused team that respects your expertise and your time
- Room to grow - we are growing fast and we want planners who are excited to grow with us
OUR PROCESS AND CULTURE
We are a niche firm, and we take our niche seriously. The compensation structures, corporate mechanics, insurance requirements, and planning priorities of an incorporated physician are genuinely distinct and we have built our entire process around them. You will become a specialist here, not a generalist who happens to have some physician clients.
We’re a growing firm, and we’re continually improving how we work. You’ll thrive here if you’re comfortable working in an evolving environment, enjoy identifying opportunities to make things better, and take pride in helping build the processes and systems that support a excellent client and employee experience.
We treat each other the way we treat our clients: with respect, directness, and a genuine commitment to doing things right.
