Fire Safety/Electrical Engineer - Montreal's South Shore Origin is a forensic investigation firm specializing in post-loss investigations in fire and electrical, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, materials, metallurgy and chemistry. Our multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists and technologists examines incidents objectively, working closely with all stakeholders to establish the facts, determine causes and set out clear, evidence-based conclusions that make informed technical, legal and insurance decisions possible.
Our mission is simple: bring clarity to complex situations through rigorous, independent scientific expertise. The role of a fire engineer is to conduct technical investigations through a meticulous scientific analysis of the damage and any evidence that may remain after a fire or explosion, in order to determine its origin and cause. Conducts investigations and observations to determine the cause of a fire, whether in a building (residential, commercial, industrial, or agricultural) or involving equipment
- Conducts tests, analyses, and/or examinations, as well as laboratory simulations, to verify explanatory hypotheses
- Explains the process that led to their conclusions, communicating them both verbally and in writing
- Travel throughout Quebec (and, more rarely, outside Quebec) to examine fire scenes
- Serve as an expert witness in court when required. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (preferred) or mechanical engineering
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required
- Fluency in French, both spoken and written Skills and interest in technical and hands-on work
- Willingness to participate in promotional activities and ability to maintain the company’s network of professional contacts
- Availability for training in both Canada and the United States, as well as for sharing technical knowledge among experts
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English (an asset). Solid analytical, synthesis, and scientific skills
- Customer-service orientation
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel, with sufficient storage space to transport specimens and technical equipment.
Permanent position: 35 hours per week - remote work option available; ~ Compensation based on relevant experience, candidate profile, and company salary policy; ~4 weeks of vacation plus holiday season time off; ~ Overtime pay at a premium rate; ~ Performance-based bonuses; ~ Group insurance plans and a Voluntary Retirement Savings Plan (VRSP) with employer contribution; ~ Free on-site parking.
