Location: Qathet General Hospital, Powell River.

Job Type: Full time and Part time (40 hrs/week)

DutiesResponsibilities:

- Maintain a visible security presence throughout the healthcare facility to help provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Manage access to designated areas by monitoring entrances, verifying identification, and ensuring established access-control procedures are followed.
- Perform routine interior and exterior patrols to identify safety concerns, suspicious activity, unauthorized access, or other potential risks.
- Respond to security incidents, medical emergencies, disturbances, alarms, and other urgent situations in accordance with site procedures.




- Use solid communication and de-escalation techniques when interacting with individuals who may be distressed, agitated, or displaying challenging behaviour.
- Support emergency response procedures, including lockdowns, evacuations, and other critical incidents.
- Monitor CCTV, alarms, and other security systems and respond appropriately to identified concerns.
- Prepare clear and accurate incident reports, daily logs, and other required security documentation.
- Work closely with healthcare professionals and site leadership to address security and safety concerns.
- Liaise professionally with police, fire, paramedics, and other emergency services when required.

What You Bring

- Valid BC Security Worker Licence.
- Valid Advanced Security Training (AST) certification is an asset.
- Previous security experience; experience in healthcare, hospital, or other high-risk environments is considered an asset.

- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Confidence using de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques in challenging situations.

- Strong situational awareness, judgment, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to write clear, detailed,



and professional incident reports.
- Basic computer skills and comfort working with electronic reporting and security systems.

- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with healthcare and security teams.
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Post-secondary education in Police Foundations, Criminal Justice, Community Justice Services, Law Enforcement, or a related field is considered an asset.
