DZ Driver/Picker (Seasonal Contract) Position Type: Contract Full-Time (October 5th, 2026- December 11th, 2026) Start Date: Immediately Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00am Start Time Compensation: $27.00 per hour Today, Miller Waste operates collection fleets, recycling facilities, transfer stations, and composting operations that help communities manage waste responsibly while recovering valuable resources from the waste stream. As a DZ Driver/Picker, your duties will include but are not limited to: Operate municipal waste collection vehicles requiring a valid DZ driver's licence, including rear-load, side-load, top-loader or automated side-loader collection trucks.

Ensure adherence to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, and defensive driving practices. Position vehicle safely during collection activities and operate hydraulic lifting mechanisms when required.

Waste Collection

Collect residential garbage, recycling, organics, and yard waste according to municipal collection schedules. Manually lift and empty waste containers, bags, and bins into the collection vehicle. Assist with loading materials and ensuring proper placement within the vehicle to prevent spillage.

Identify and report improperly sorted or prohibited waste materials. Follow all Occupational Health and Safety regulations, municipal policies, and departmental procedures. Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety boots, gloves, reflective clothing, and hearing protection.

Report safety hazards, incidents, or injuries immediately to supervisors.

Vehicle





Inspection and Maintenance Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of vehicles in accordance with provincial regulations. Identify mechanical issues or safety concerns and report them through appropriate maintenance channels.

Customer Service

Provide skilled and courteous service to residents during waste collection activities. Respond to basic inquiries regarding collection schedules, waste separation, or program guidelines. Report service issues, missed pickups, or complaints to supervisory staff.

Administrative Duties

Complete required daily logs, route sheets, and inspection reports. Previous experience in waste collection, sanitation services, heavy vehicle operation, or municipal operations is considered an asset. CVOR knowledge or experience is an asset.

WHMIS training or ability to obtain certification. Knowledge of municipal waste collection procedures and environmental regulations. Familiarity with safe operation of hydraulic waste collection equipment.

Strong understanding of road safety and defensive driving practices. Artificial intelligence is not used in the screening, assessment, or selection of applicants for this position.
