Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and field-focused HSE Field Technician to join our Health, Safety & Environment team. This position is primarily field-based and will provide HSE support to multiple industrial, construction, maintenance, scaffolding, logistics, and project locations throughout Alberta.

The successful candidate will work closely with site supervision, workers, project management, and the HSE team to promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with legislative, client, and company requirements, and provide practical, hands-on safety support to field operations.

This role requires a self-starter who is comfortable working independently, maintaining a strong field presence, communicating effectively with all levels of the organization, and travelling between project sites as operational needs require.

The ideal candidate understands that effective HSE support is built through field engagement, coaching, observation, communication, and collaboration with the workforce and supervision.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, worksite observations, and field safety interactions.
- Complete, review, and support Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), inspections, and other required safety documentation.
- Identify hazards and work collaboratively with supervision and workers to implement appropriate controls.
- Support incident and near-miss reporting, investigations, corrective actions, lessons learned, and follow-up.
- Assist with employee and site orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and other HSE initiatives.
- Verify compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation, client requirements, company policies, procedures, and safe work practices.




- Monitor field activities and provide coaching and support where opportunities for improvement are identified.
- Support workers and supervision in exercising Stop Work authority when unsafe conditions or activities are identified.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, inspection documentation, training records, and safety statistics.
- Support emergency preparedness, emergency response planning, drills, and site-specific requirements.
- Assist with training and competency verification where required.
- Support company and client HSE programs, initiatives, inspections, and audits.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, workers, subcontractors, clients, and management to continuously improve safety performance.
- Maintain regular communication with HSE management regarding site activities, concerns, trends, incidents, and opportunities for improvement.
- Travel regularly between project sites throughout Alberta as operational requirements dictate.

Minimum Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years of industrial field experience in construction, maintenance, scaffolding, mechanical, fabrication, logistics, or related industries.
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation – required.
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation and industry safety practices.
- Demonstrated experience completing field inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and safety documentation.




- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout Alberta.
- Ability and willingness to access active industrial and construction worksites, including working around equipment, scaffolding, and work-at-height activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with workers, supervision, management, clients, and subcontractors.
- Robust organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and manage HSE requirements across multiple locations.

Technical Skills Applicants must demonstrate proficiency with:
