Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented In-Person Computer-based Examination Proctors (Invigilators) in Ottawa, ON to ensure the integrity and smooth operation of exam sessions. In this role, you will oversee exam environments, monitor test-takers, and enforce testing policies to uphold fairness and security. Your proactive supervision and excellent communication skills will create a positive testing experience for all candidates while maintaining strict adherence to exam protocols. This is a casual part-time position, typically two mornings / month. One morning shift from 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM pays $100 for proctors and $125 for selected head proctors.
During
April, July and December, additional shifts are available including afternoon shifts from 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM. Lunch break included.
The Insurance
Institute of Ontario (Ottawa chapter) is located at 1419 Carling Ave., Unit 201, Ottawa ON, K1Z 7L6.
Responsibilities
- Prepare exam rooms, set up desks, chairs and laptops per exam seating plan.
- Welcome exam candidates and verify identity by checking government-issued photo IDs and taking photos of candidates
- Monitor exam sessions attentively to prevent cheating or misconduct
- Enforce testing rules and procedures consistently throughout the examination period
- Assist candidates with technical or procedural questions in a clear and qualified manner
- Maintain a quiet, organized, and secure testing environment at all times
- Record attendance, start and end times, and any incidents during the exam session
- Maintain confidentiality of exam candidates' information and exam content at all times
- Restore the exam room to its original configuration, secure and pack all laptops,
and appropriately retain, dispose of, and report any items left behind by candidates.
- Be comfortable spending extended periods of time standing or walking around the exam room.
- Must attend all trainings and refresher workshops.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in supervising or proctoring exams, teaching, or customer service roles is preferred
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain procedures and address candidate inquiries
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple candidates efficiently
- Ability to remain vigilant, attentive, and composed in a fast-paced environment
- Basic familiarity with computer systems and troubleshooting common technical issues
- Demonstrated reliability with punctuality and adherence to protocols
- Proficiency in both English and French is considered an asset.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Post-secondary education is considered an asset.
- NOT be currently registered in Insurance Institute of Canada courses or/and exams.
