About the Canadian Forum on Workforce and Workplace InnovationThe Canadian Forum on Workforce and Workplace Innovation is an independent Canadian forum focused on how technology, changing work practices and labour market developments are affecting employers, workers and workplaces.
CFWI brings together perspectives from industry, workforce organizations, researchers, practitioners and the public sector to better understand the changes taking place across Canadian workplaces and what they mean for productivity, workforce development and workplace safety.
Our work focuses on practical issues facing employers and workers, including technology adoption, changing skills requirements, workplace productivity, occupational health and safety, job design, workforce development and the introduction of current tools and ways of working.
CFWI produces research, practical briefs, data resources and other publications, and works to create opportunities for discussion across sectors.
About the roleCFWI is looking for an experienced professional to support its work on workplace productivity, safety and how technology is changing Canadian workplaces.
The Industry Engagement Lead will help ensure that CFWI's work reflects the practical experience of employers, industry organizations and people working directly within Canadian workplaces.
The role combines industry engagement, research support and practical analysis. It is particularly suited to someone who understands how organizations operate and is interested in the relationship between productivity, workplace safety, technology and changing work practices.
You will work across CFWI's activities rather than being limited to a single project or sector.
What you will doYou will help CFWI identify and understand important developments affecting Canadian workplaces, including:
- Emerging workplace productivity and operational challenges
- New technologies being introduced into workplaces
- Automation and changes in how work is organized
- Occupational health and safety issues
- Workplace injury prevention
- Changes in equipment, processes and job design
- Employer approaches to improving productivity and workforce outcomes
- New practices being introduced in sectors across Canada
You will also
- Contribute practical industry perspectives to CFWI research and publications
- Help identify topics for future research and practical briefs
- Review selected publications from an employer or practitioner perspective
- Support engagement with employers, industry associations and workplace organizations
- Identify organizations, initiatives and case studies that CFWI should be following
- Help develop relationships with people and organizations working on similar issues
- Contribute to discussions, roundtables and other CFWI activities
- Help translate industry developments into practical insights that can be shared with a broader Canadian audience

You do not need to come from a particular sector. What matters most is an understanding of how workplaces operate and an interest in the changes affecting Canadian employers and workers.
What would make someone a robust fitA strong candidate will likely have:
- Several years of professional experience in a relevant field
- Experience working directly with employers, operational teams, industry organizations or workplace organizations
- A practical understanding of workplace productivity, operations or occupational health and safety
- An interest in technology and how it is changing work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to look beyond a single organization or sector and identify broader workplace trends
- An interest in contributing to research, publications and discussions that reach a national audience
Experience working across multiple organizations, industries or stakeholder groups would be particularly valuable. What this role is notThis is not a traditional academic research position.
CFWI is particularly interested in people who can bring practical experience into its work and help connect broader discussions about productivity, technology and workforce change with what is actually happening inside Canadian workplaces.
You do not need to be an occupational health and safety specialist, economist or researcher to be considered.
