Position Summary The University of Denver Sturm College of Law seeks to hire a respected, innovative, and visionary member of its full-time, visiting, or adjunct faculty to serve as Interim Director of its nationally recognized Graduate Tax Program (“Program”). A respected leader in providing tax-related training to both lawyers and accountants, the Program features two rigorous and cutting-edge degree programs (LL.M. and M. Tax), an outstanding complement of full-time and adjunct faculty, strong partnerships with leading employers, and a dedicated network of roughly 3,000 highly accomplished alumni working in law, accounting, business, government, and other fields.
The directorship is contemplated as a part-time administrative appointment capable of being held alongside other compatible professional commitments that the Director may wish to pursue, including teaching at the Sturm College of Law and legal practice. The successful candidate would be expected to begin as soon as possible. The term of the position is one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second and/or third year upon mutual agreement. Essential Functions The Interim Director would be expected to undertake the following principal responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and continuously advance the stature, visibility, and return-on-investment of the Program.
- Assess and augment curricular and co-curricular initiatives, working closely with the Executive Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, adjunct faculty, and staff in the law school’s Registrar’s Office.
- In collaboration with the Director of Graduate Admissions, develop and implement a comprehensive enrollment management strategy for the Program, including marketing, strategic partnerships, admissions, scholarship awards, and pre- and post-admission advising.
- Supervise the Director of Graduate Admissions with respect to the advising of current students.
- Collaborate with the Career Development Office and the Externship Office to expand professional opportunities for students and to provide them with sound and market-relevant professional advising.
- Partner with staff members in the divisions of Marketing and Communications, Advancement, and Events on initiatives focused on elevating the profile of the Program.
- Represent the Sturm College of Law at prominent external events, including those hosted by the ABA Section of Taxation.
- Collaborate with the Dean, the Career Development Office, the Externship Office, and Advancement professionals to engage external stakeholders (including alumni, law firms, accounting firms, and corporations), including for purposes of strategic counsel and philanthropic support.
Required Qualifications
- Expertise in tax law
- J.D., M. Tax, and/or LL.M. (Tax) degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior tax-related teaching experience
Salary Range The position pays an annual non-benefited administrative stipend of $20,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
