Reports to: Senior Ecosystems Lead

Term: Full-Time - Term (12 months)

Compensation: $26.00 - $32.00 hourly

The Socioeconomic and Environmental Assessment Support position will support socioeconomic baseline studies and environmental assessment work for a proposed mineral development project in British Columbia. Working under the direction of senior staff, the employee will help collect, organize, analyze, and summarize information related to community well-being, employment and training, economic conditions, land and resource use, community services, infrastructure, health, culture, and other social and economic factors that may be affected by a proposed project. This position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in socioeconomic research, Indigenous and community engagement, data management, and environmental assessment reporting.

Primary Duties

- Support the collection and review of socioeconomic baseline information from publicly available reports, government databases, community plans, academic literature, and other credible sources,
- Compile information on population, demographics, employment, income, education, housing, community services, infrastructure, businesses, and local and regional economic conditions,
- Assist with the development and maintenance of socioeconomic databases, community profiles, literature reviews, and data-source inventories,
- Support preparation for interviews, workshops, meetings, and other community or Indigenous engagement activities,
- Assist with developing interview guides, questionnaires, meeting materials, presentations, and plain-language information,
- Take accurate meeting notes and prepare summaries, action lists, and records of engagement,
- Organize and summarize concerns, interests, priorities, and potential project interactions identified through engagement,
- Assist with identifying potential social and economic project effects, mitigation measures, enhancement opportunities, and monitoring indicators,
- Support assessment of potential project-related demands on housing, health care, emergency services, transportation, recreation, education, and other community services,
- Contribute to technical reports, environmental assessment sections, proposals,



work plans, tables, figures, and presentation materials,
- Review documents for completeness, consistency, plain language, formatting, and accurate referencing,
- Maintain organized and confidential project records in accordance with applicable privacy and information-management requirements,
- Participate in team meetings and coordinate with environmental, health, heritage, land-use, and engagement specialists, and
- Complete other related research, administrative, and project-support duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of nłeʔképmx culture and nłeʔkepmxcín is an asset,
- Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and synthesize information from multiple sources,
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise summaries, reports, and presentations,
- Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully with Indigenous communities, local governments, community organizations, technical specialists, and members of the public,
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently with appropriate guidance,
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online research tools,
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work,
- Sound judgment and professionalism when handling confidential or sensitive information,
- Knowledge of or interest in research, data analysis, community development, public policy, Indigenous relations, environmental management, or related disciplines,
- Ability to listen carefully, assess varying perspectives, and represent information objectively and accurately,
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, nłeʔképmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity, and
- Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn in a dynamic work environment.

Experience and Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in Sociology, Economics, Geography, Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies, Community Planning, Political Science, Public Health, Natural Resource Management, or a related field,
- Experience conducting research, literature reviews, interviews, surveys, data collection, or community engagement activities considered an asset,




- Commitment to ethical research and meaningful community participation,
- Familiarity with socioeconomic baseline studies, effects assessments, community-based research, or related analytical work considered an asset,
- Knowledge of Indigenous rights, interests, cultures, histories, and contemporary community priorities considered an asset,
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, or governments considered an asset,
- Familiarity with Statistics Canada, BC Stats, census information, and other public socioeconomic data sources considered an asset,
- Experience using Excel, GIS, qualitative data analysis tools, statistical software, or data visualization platforms considered an asset,
- Previous experience in mining, natural resources, environmental consulting, local government, community development, or related sectors considered an asset,
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to reliable transportation may be required, and
- Ability to travel to communities, project sites, workshops, or engagement sessions, including on occasional evenings and weekends, as required.

Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K’en T’em office at 1355 Nicola Ave, Merritt BC,
- Vacation: paid out bi-weekly at a rate of 4% in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act ("ESA"),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer, and
- Pension: Pension matching.
