Government of Yukon - Community Services - Regulatory Consumer Services - Yukon Public Libraries Casual Full/Part Time Full-time Standard Hours Bi-weekly As Per Rotation Travel Open to all Candidates, Preference - Canadian Indigenous Ancestry, Preference - Yukon First Nations ancestry A hiring preference will apply for qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with a priority for qualified Yukon First Nation candidates. This initiative is in support of Yukon government’s goal for a representative public service. This posting is for two 6-month casual positions.

Libraries operates 15 public libraries in communities throughout the Yukon, including the administrative center at the Whitehorse Public Library.

culture and recreation opportunities and resources for life-long learning and an educated, informed and healthy public.

The Library

Assistant (LA) is an integral part of a diverse team of around 25 including: librarians, library technicians, and other library support staff. LAs are responsible for assisting members of the public in using library resources such as the catalogue, library website, and equipment such as the printer and scanner. LAs main priority is providing customer service, circulation, and other support services to Whitehorse Library patrons, and may from time to time provide administrative and other supports to Yukon Public Libraries in general.

Experience providing client service in a fast-paced customer-focused environment Experience assisting members of the public with basic questions, other information and/or technology related needs Experience using various computer software (e.g. MS Office, Internet, e-mail) Experience working in a library and familiarity with an Integrated Library System (ILS) is considered an asset. Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may be equally considered.

These are competencies and/or job specific proficiencies that are effective to be successful in the role and may be assessed during the recruitment process. Competence in various computer applications (e.g. MS Office, MS Teams, e-readers) and adaptable to ever-changing technologies.

Ability to provide excellent customer service experience to a wide-ranging public Ability to troubleshoot a variety of computer software programs Hours include various evening and weekend shifts.
