Unit 64 is a 33-bed unit at Rockyview General Hospital with 28 Postpartum beds and 5 Surgical beds. The focus of care on the unit is Maternal-Child (Postpartum women and their newborns). Because of the fluctuations in our maternal-child patient population, Unit 64 also provides pre-operative and post-operative care for surgical patients from general surgery, urology, gynecology, and orthopedics.

The nurse-to-patient ratio expectation is 1 nurse to 4 mother-baby dyads or 1 nurse to 5 surgical patients.As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in accordance with all elements of the current for Licensed Practical Nurses and as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Standards of Practice. You will be a member of the Maternal Child health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic and comprehensive care to meet the needs of postpartum women, including pre- and post-operative surgical care, and newborns within the context of their family. Nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation with the purpose of facilitating physical recovery and / or promotion of health within a fast paced and energetic teaching environment.

You will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making, as well as teach and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures.

patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Additional Required Qualifications: Recent LPN experience in an acute care facility required. Recent LPN maternal-child experience required. Demonstrated motivation and ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrated skill in the principles of patient and family centered care. Able to lift, push, pull equipment, including, but not limited to stretchers and hospital beds with patients. 2 years recent experience in Postpartum nursing preferred. Evidence of knowledge and skill related to infant nutrition and breastfeeding preferred.
