Do you have meticulous attention to detail, are well organized and able to prioritize multiple files and possess robust document management skills while supporting two busy lawyers. Responsibilities
- Manage litigation files from opening to closing, including court filings, scheduling, deadlines, client communication, and limitation tracking
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, court forms, Affidavits of Records, and undertaking responses, prepare briefs and factums
- Maintain lawyer calendars, coordinate meetings, diarize next steps, and ensure files progress efficiently
- Handle billing, time entry, trust requests, and file administration
- Conduct court filings, searches, conflict checks, legal research, and registry searches
- Prepare and file documents through the Personal Property Registry and Land Titles systems, including writ registrations and registrations, amendments, and discharges affecting title
- Review and proofread documents for accuracy and compliance with Alberta court procedures
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years litigation legal assistant or paralegal experience
- Strong knowledge of Alberta litigation procedures and the Rules of Court
- Ability to prepare routine litigation documents with minimal supervision
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage competing deadlines while proactively tracking limitations and next steps
- Professional, proactive, and dependable
- Experience with legal practice management software. We currently use Acumin and NetDocuments. Experience with these platforms is an asset
- Experience with Court of Appeals (CAMS), Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) is a definite asset
- Experience with Remindex, Personal Property Registry (PPR),
and Land Titles systems is an asset
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and work in a fast paced, high volume, deadline driven environment with strong attention to detail
- Excellent organization and file management skills
- Dictation skills
- Competent in written and spoken English
