Position Summary The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and operational readiness of Tornado Infrastructure Equipment's manufacturing facility, production equipment, building systems, tools, and supporting infrastructure. This role provides leadership to the Maintenance team and is accountable for maintaining a safe, efficient, and productive operating environment that supports manufacturing objectives and business continuity.
The Maintenance Supervisor oversees maintenance planning, preventative maintenance programs, facility improvements, contractor activities, and maintenance resources to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, control costs, and support operational excellence.
Key Responsibility Areas:
The Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for:
- Facility and infrastructure reliability
- Equipment uptime and operational readiness
- Preventive and corrective maintenance execution
- Maintenance planning and scheduling effectiveness
- Health, safety, and environmental compliance
- Contractor management and work quality
- Maintenance labor productivity and resource utilization
- Maintenance cost management
- Department housekeeping and workplace organization
- Continuous improvement and asset reliability initiatives
- Achievement of departmental objectives and KPIs
Maintenance Operations and Reliability
- Lead the day-to-day maintenance activities required to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
- Ensure building systems, production support equipment, facility infrastructure, and plant assets are maintained in a safe and reliable condition.
- Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to maximize equipment availability and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Prioritize maintenance activities based on operational risk, production requirements, and business priorities.
- Monitor equipment performance and maintenance trends to identify reliability improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules to minimize production disruptions and optimize resource utilization.
- Support troubleshooting and timely resolution of facility and equipment-related issues.
- Ensure maintenance records, asset history, and work orders are accurately maintained.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Provide visible leadership in safety and maintain a culture of accountability and hazard awareness.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure maintenance personnel and contractors work in accordance with company procedures and safe work practices.
- Monitor and report any concerns related to loss, misuse, damage, or unauthorized removal of company property.
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support emergency preparedness, business continuity, and facility risk management initiatives.
- Ensure all required inspections, certifications, and regulatory maintenance activities are completed on time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office, manufacturing, warehouse, and outdoor work environments.
- Frequent exposure to fabrication, welding, assembly, industrial equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure.
- Regular walking, climbing, lifting, and movement throughout the facility.
- Exposure to varying weather and operating conditions.
- Required use of PPE and adherence to all safety requirements.
- Occasional overtime or after-hours support may be required to address operational or emergency maintenance needs.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary education or trade certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical, Millwright, Mechanical, Building Systems, Facilities Management, or a related discipline preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance, facilities, or manufacturing support experience.
- Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, fabrication, heavy equipment, or industrial facilities preferred.
- Experience managing contractors, maintenance planning, and facility improvement projects.
- Experience with CMMS, ERP, or maintenance management systems is considered an asset.
Certifications
- Valid Class 3 Driver's License.
- TDG, WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, and Confined Space certifications.
- Incident Investigation and Safety Leadership training considered an asset.
