Wavelo is a SaaS business on a mission to make telecoms a breeze. We provide flexible software that modernizes how communication service providers (CSPs) do business, helping them drive more value, focus on customer experience, and scale their operations faster. It’s also why the majority of our roles are remote-first, meaning you can work from anywhere you can connect to the Internet!

We're looking for a hands‑on Engineering Manager to lead our Platform Foundations team — a small, high‑leverage group responsible for defining the engineering standards and foundational components that the entire platform is built on. This role is primarily technical — you'll stay close to the code and architecture while providing the leadership and direction a senior team needs to do its best work. You'll work across backend services, DevOps practices, and event‑driven infrastructure to establish patterns the rest of engineering depends on.

This role is fully remote for applicants based in Canada. Partner with engineering leadership to evolve and standardize the foundational architecture for a cloud-native, event-driven telecom platform — identifying areas for improvement and driving safe, incremental modernization alongside active development Own developer experience: build tooling, CI pipeline performance, dependency management, and inner‑source contribution models across a shared monorepo Govern shared UI component standards and design system practices used across teams Establish and maintain engineering standards: RFCs, ADRs, architecture reviews Champion AI‑first development practices across tooling, workflows, and culture Manage and develop a small,

established team of senior engineers 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with hands‑on proficiency in Golang or similar languages ~ Background in platform or infrastructure engineering: you've built shared internal platforms, not just product features ~ Experience defining engineering standards at an org level — RFCs, ADRs, or architecture review processes ~ Strong DevOps sensibility: Familiarity with supporting & delivering frontend development and component/design systems — enough to govern a shared UI library Experience in telecom, BSS/OSS, or similarly complex domain platforms AI-first mindset : you actively use AI tooling and advocate for it in your team's workflow Architectural depth : you can zoom out to the system and zoom in to the implementation The base salary range for this position is $165,000 – $175,000 CAD for Canadian residents. At Wavelo and Tucows we care about protecting the open Internet, narrowing the digital divide, and supporting fairness and equality.

We also know that diversity drives innovation. We are committed to inclusion across race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other perks and privileges of employment.

We use AI-enabled tools throughout our recruitment process to help us work more efficiently and consistently. Learn more about Tucows, our businesses, culture and employee benefits on our site here. #
